I've never liked the jerkit smilie, BUT... I do have a problem with unequal rules for the "normal" forums. Spark aproves of it and allows it's use EVERYwhere, so, I don't really don't think the Busse forum should have "holier than thou" rules.
What do the head honchos think of this?
AND, if they approve of the ruling, IMO there should be a way to remove it from the list of smilies on that forum.

W-Man- It's just a stupid symbol. IMHO, the Busse community on their forum are pretty damned civil and the mods there do a good job that's neither heavy-handed nor holier-than-thou.

Off topic, but Walking Man I just saw your location. I'm near North Canton Hoover Highschool myself, what about you?

It has everything to do with what they feel is inappropriate for that particular sub-forum. . . .rather than a "holier-than-thou" mentality.

Walking Man has his "Send a message via Email" function activated.

Good for the Busse forum! I think the jerkit smiley could have it's uses in, say, W&C. But I see it being used all the time in the most inappropriate ways by people who apparently don't know what the heck it means. For example:

I just got the greatest knife! :jerkit:

or

I visited my Mom yesterday, she baked me an apple pie. :jerkit:

Some people think it's a picture of a guy scratching his chin wondering about something, so they reply to somebody else's post that they don't understand saying things like

I wonder what you meant by that. :jerkit:

What the heck does that mean? :jerkit:

Why did you say that? :jerkit:

Then the first guy, who sees it as a different picture, gets all upset....

I would just as soon do without that smiley.

If it is such an awful thing then get rid of it all together. If someone really wanted to post it in whine and cheese, they could easily find it on the internet somewhere. Keeping such a smilie for only W&C is assanine, and so restricting it's use in specific forums if it's going to appear there publically.

What's so asinine about that? Is it asinine to make sure naked strippers don't appear in classrooms? Is it asinine to prohibit 300 lb truck drivers from lighting up huge stogies and blasting farts at a little old ladies knitting circle? It's even more asinine to think that something considered offensive, or at least vulgar, in the general public should either be removed entirely or freely allowed everywhere. Some things are appropriate in some places, others not.

The jerk-it smilie is banned from use in the Community Forum. The use of bad language is not allowed in there and the jerk-it smilie is just as offensive. It can be banned for use in certain forums that are read by the under 18 crowd.

It's not welcome in the political forum. It's generally lookup upon poorly in the balisong forum too.

Personally, I've never liked it and think it should be removed from the list.

It just about always reflects very poorly upon the person who uses it.

If it ever gets removed from the list, then posts will be pockmarked with the phrase :jerkit: How's that gonna look ?

That is my point exactly. How is it determined that the jerkit smilie is acceptable in the general forum and not community or in the Busse forum, but not the Chris Reeve forum. That's what I consider assanine. I'm sure all of these forums are read by the under 18 crowd. If the smilie isn't allowed there, it shouldn't even appear there. IMO.

Since I lived in Las Vegas, I just thought it was some dude lookin' for divine intervention before a roll at the Craps table. :jerkit:

Now what the phuck's a jerkit???

And on Bladeforums, in general, I think. I was very surprised when Spark allowed it in the lineup. I think the yawning smilie is enough to get the sentiment across.

I don't really have a problem with it being off-limits in certain forums, nor do I have a problem with specific forums deciding it's inappropriate. However, I don't like the threat of a ban for using it. The "jerkit" is big, animated, and at the top of the list, so somebody (newb, forum regular who doesn't visit Busse often, or even a certified Hog who mis-clicks) is going to use it inadvertently and bring down a storm. If there's a software solution that makes it impossible to post :jerkit: in certain places, then fine. I just don't want anyone to whip out holier-than-thou hostility for something relatively minor.

Let me be very, very clear.
What bothers me the most are the seemly contridictory rules on the forums.
No, I don't like the jerkit, but if it's going to be allowed in one place, it ought to be allowed everywhere. If someone wants a profane smilie to post in the cove or W&C, they can always get it on the internet.

I'm sorry if I have you mistaken with someone else, but I don't associate myself with drug users. Sorry.

oh, now that's a burn.
No insult intended, I've just had bad experiences (HOW THE HECK WAS THAT AN INSULT?!?!?). The drug users I've known have been unpredictible and manipulative, so I stay away as much as possible. Sorry if this offends, but it my personal philosophy, and mine only. I'm not claiming to be right or better than drug users. Not only that I don't want to be around if they ever get busted, I don't need or want that kind of trouble......
HOWEVER..... I really wish we'd stay on topic. please. Thanks.

BTW....////
How is one supposed to know that this smilie is banned from the community forum. This is the first I've heard of this. There's no sticky, like the in Busse forum.
Okay....
I found it.

But it's not something you'd see unless you're looking for it, and I still think it's hypocritical to used it in one public forum, but not others.
