jerkit smilies banned from Busse forums?

How is it hypocritical? If a specific forum does not allow it's use then simply don't use it in that forum. It would only be hypocritical if the person that banned it's use used it in that forum.

I still think it's hypocritical to used it in one public forum, but not others.
I hate to beat a dead horse, but according to your logic, it's hypocritical to allow the performance of certian bodily functions in the bathroom, but not in other rooms of the house. :D

You're overextending that bit of logic, Torz, and you know it. :p

There are too many rules for the various forums.

I don't like the threat of being banned for using it.

Not that I have ever, or will ever use it. It should be one way or the other.

My vote is to ban it altogether. Then the moderators can work on the offensive avatars. Its a never ending thing... Will always be something to offend someone.

Walking Man, if it bothers you that much, petition Spark with some good reasoning and logic, and ask him to remove it from BFC completely.

Don't Whine, or carry on about it. Make a good argument for its removal.

I agree with some of the other mods; it is inappropriate in most forums, and I personally wouldn't miss it, but I know others who would.

In the mean time, don't use it yourself, and try to ignore others who do.

Never use it myself, as I see it as a sign of disrespect. I wouldn't miss it one little bit if it were to be removed. The fact that I never use it means that I don't have to worry about being banned for its use. If a moderator of a forum thinks that it is inappropriate for that forum, it is my opinion that the moderator should be able to not allow it to be used. If it is an offense that one can be banned for, there should be a sticky that clearly states this.

Banish it to the Cove and W&C only. It really has no place anywhere else without stirring up the pot.

No insult intended, I've just had bad experiences (HOW THE HECK WAS THAT AN INSULT?!?!?). The drug users I've known have been unpredictible and manipulative, so I stay away as much as possible. Sorry if this offends, but it my personal philosophy, and mine only. I'm not claiming to be right or better than drug users. Not only that I don't want to be around if they ever get busted, I don't need or want that kind of trouble......
HOWEVER..... I really wish we'd stay on topic. please. Thanks.

Perhaps simply removing it from the list of available icons might have the effect of discouraging its casual use. To my miond, that would be all to the better.

Bring back the old Rolleyes emoticon!!

I don't really think that I need to argue about it anymore. I think that Spark probably keeps a close eye on this forum, and has probably read this and has already made his decision to ignore it.
Here's the basic argument:
I don't agree that it's okay to ban curse words, but to allow a profane smilie.
It's a very simple, event to the point of being an almost implied argument.
This has been brought up before, and Spark allowed it's use. But now he's allowing's it's banning from individual forums? I don't get it. Let's keep it or loose it.

Walking Man brings ups a very valid point.

Frankly, from a practical level, Mr. Jerkit is being used as a substitute for real conversation, and generally serves only to escalate a discussion into a fight.

The model many of us try to follow is "Act like you're in a conversation in Spark's living room." Who the hell would use that gesture in a polite conversation?

Some people think it's a picture of a guy scratching his chin wondering about something, so they reply to somebody else's post that they don't understand saying things like

that happened to me one time, it looks like it means "hmmm"

And all this time I thought that symbol was a guy shaking himself a martini, rolling his eyes thinkin about how good it was going to taste!!!!!

It would be if there was a toilet in every other room. The jerkit is available for use in every forum, then rules were put in place to restrict it. Just take it out if it's considered inappropriate.

I have no problem with the jerkit. I do have a problem with it being considered an offense to use it when it was provided to us. Swearing is restricted on certain forums, but there also isn't a list of swear words next to the message composition box for easy click & add.

I could understand if it was hotlinked from some other site, then that could be a violation and use of something clearly not suppoprted outright by the forum. But that isn't the case, it's like saying don't quote messages, even though there's a quote button on each message.
