This is a very nice large Bowie style fighter by Jerry Fisk - another in his series of National Living Treasure (NLT) knives. The blade is 10.5 in. - OAL is 16 in. The damascus steel features Jerry's "Dog Star" pattern. An excellent sheath by Paul Long completes the package.

Per Jerry, "This knife has a bit of history. I mixed some World Trade Center steel in with the Damascus. I started with 13 layers, one for each Colony of our country so I could tie the beginning and modern times together. The blade was one of those I forged out on an upcoming episode of the History Channel were I was teaching Jesse James how to make Damascus. When I tested the knife it buried up into the 2x4 a bit wider than the width of the blade so I got about 2 inches deep in one cut, that made it worth finishing. The handle is female fossil Walrus, the mountings are of stainless.

The client wanted sea shells on the guard and the handle bars but other than that he did not care what I did, just make it nice. I hope I was able to get to that point. He was wanting a center piece for his collection.
When a client does that I always try to give him more value than he paid for. Good business and good friendships are based on that principle so it was a fun piece for me.

I would never have thought years ago that engraving would take so much time to do. Nor would I have thought it gives me so much satisfaction on completion.
I learned on this knife some things that I want to extend further, which is the whole point of making knives, to learn."

Very nicely done with the typical fine rendition of the Bowie knife just the way Jerry sees the genre. This will make any collector of Fisk knives more than satisfied - just thrilled I'm sure.

This knife is a true work of art. I love every aspect of it. Special piece for your collection.

I'm curious about the choice to use WTC wreckage for this piece, is there a deeper significance to this? Particularly for the collector?

So many fine features come together to make this an absolutely Outstanding piece!!

I'm a HUGE FAN of this Fisk Bowie Design.
It's an Epiphany of High Art and High Performance coming together as one.
I believe Jerry has made several of these (I owned the first) and this is the best yet.
A Truly Great Custom Knife.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

That is a bowie you could love forever.

Great pied, and a jewel of any collection.

"The handle is female fossil Walrus, "

How do you know the Walrus ivory is female? Is there a difference between male and female Walrus ivory? (other than length) I know this sounds like a smartass question, but I'm really curious to know.

Mr. Fisk was kind enough to respond to my question about female Walrus ivory on the CKCA forums so I thought I would repost his answer here on BF.

"Mark, the female walrus has a smaller inside core or "peth" than the male tusk.

Good question. There are so many things to think about when you choose your handles. The handle choice alone can effect up to 40% of the resale market value in the secondary market. So it is important to know everything about handle selection."

Jerry is certainly in a class all his own

Wonderful piece :)

Looking forward to seeing it and Jerry in a few weeks

Jerry has more than one 'signature' knife, and this one tops his list. Love the little waist, and the combination of that dreamy ivory and the smart clamshell guards make the comfortable end SO appealing.

The not-as-comfortable end is all business and all NLT.

Paul's work elevates any knife in it's grasp: Sendero to Bowie.

Buddy shows it vividly and clearly, with the knife needing little embellishment. Everything just works.

A pleasure!

I've got to agree with everything in Kevin's post above about this Bowie. It may be my favorite of all.
