So...a few months back I was talking to my buddy Jerry Halfrich and somehow we got on to the subject of knives. (Imagine that!
)
Anyway, I mentioned to Jerry that I thought that he should consider introducing a modified wharncliffe blade into his lineup. I sent a few images to illustrate what I had in mind.
Fast forward a bit and Jerry called me to let me know that he had incorporated the blade style with his new (slipjoint) "Rounder" model which he brought to the Blade Show.
After the Blade Show Jerry and I got to talking again and I mentioned that one thing I felt was missing from his catalog was a nice little fixed blade that could be used as a neck knife, pocket fixed blade or small belt knife. Again I suggested utilizing the modified wharncliffe blade.
Jerry decided to use the "Rounder" as the basis for the knife and came up with the "SLR" (Straight Little Rounder).
I was fortunate enough to receive the prototype for the knife today and I have to say that I think it's a winner...Big enough to feel like a handful, small enough to not seem out of place in any venue...and a blade that'll get virtually any kind of task done from whittling to caping.
Here's some stats:
CPM-154
Stag
6" OAL
2.5" (Length from tip to plunge line)
2 3/8 ounces
Mosaic pins
Serrations on blade spine and at forefinger for added grip/purchase.
Jerry didn't leave much to chance with this knife. He even lightly sculpted the scale on the mark side so that the pad of one's thumb fits into a subtle concavity. And as for the edge, well, let's just reiterate here that Jerry don't do dull!.
So, without further ado...the SLR:
Your thoughts and comments are welcome as Jerry is always interested in refining his work.
