So...a few months back I was talking to my buddy Jerry Halfrich and somehow we got on to the subject of knives. (Imagine that! ;))

Anyway, I mentioned to Jerry that I thought that he should consider introducing a modified wharncliffe blade into his lineup. I sent a few images to illustrate what I had in mind.

Fast forward a bit and Jerry called me to let me know that he had incorporated the blade style with his new (slipjoint) "Rounder" model which he brought to the Blade Show.

After the Blade Show Jerry and I got to talking again and I mentioned that one thing I felt was missing from his catalog was a nice little fixed blade that could be used as a neck knife, pocket fixed blade or small belt knife. Again I suggested utilizing the modified wharncliffe blade.

Jerry decided to use the "Rounder" as the basis for the knife and came up with the "SLR" (Straight Little Rounder).

I was fortunate enough to receive the prototype for the knife today and I have to say that I think it's a winner...Big enough to feel like a handful, small enough to not seem out of place in any venue...and a blade that'll get virtually any kind of task done from whittling to caping.

Here's some stats:

CPM-154
Stag
6" OAL
2.5" (Length from tip to plunge line)
2 3/8 ounces
Mosaic pins
Serrations on blade spine and at forefinger for added grip/purchase.

Jerry didn't leave much to chance with this knife. He even lightly sculpted the scale on the mark side so that the pad of one's thumb fits into a subtle concavity. And as for the edge, well, let's just reiterate here that Jerry don't do dull!.

So, without further ado...the SLR:

Your thoughts and comments are welcome as Jerry is always interested in refining his work.

That's a$$ kickin' Elliott !

Isn't much room for improvement on that one.
The coloring is incredible. I like the red stag with a hint of amber

Sweet!

Being a custom however WAY out of my reach!

I bet his folders are to die for!

That's aesthetically gorgeous, and it looks comfortable and well balanced. And that stag !

The only thing that's missing for my tastes would be a choil cutout seperating the cutting edge from the ricasso.

Jerry and I have discussed this a lot and I realize it's a matter of personal taste.

I've got to say that I like it as it is since it negates the possibility of having the blade hang up on the material being cut. (And I personally don't find it a problem to sharpen a blade with no (or little) choil.)

Thanks for the nice comments to all.

Just a terrific little package the two of you came up with! Looks like a lot of thought went into this, and it shows. Super nice, very impressive!

Elliott, coming from Jerry, we all knew it was a SLR (sharp little rascal)! :D

That's about as close to perfect as I've seen in a knife. I might have to start saving for when he gets one of these available to buy.

Very, very nice!! I have a weakness for skinners and capers. though not a true out and out caper its close enough to get my pulse rate up.

Congrats on a beautiful knife there Blues, really like the color. -

Right now I've been wearing it around my neck in a kydex sheath but will have some proper leather for it in the near future.:thumbup:

THAT is a fantastic knife!! I would prefer different handle material though.

Elliot, that's very nice!

I had the pleasure of meeting Jerry at the AG Russell show, super nice guy and very cool knives!!!

I like that one a lot. This is the one I picked up from Jerry at Blade, and although I love this knife, I like the blade length on yours.

I will say that I've had this one into several animals, and it cuts like butta...the blade config is perfect for getting under the skin and not ripping the meat. It's a hell of a small camp knife...and with the edge on the blade....well shoot, at the end of the day I can impress my friends by cutting hairs in half!!!

Jerry's knives will cut! (And they feel great in the hand too.)

I really appreciate all the nice comments on the SLR. By the way, you can have it with or without choil or any handle material you'd like. All you have to do is let me know. I will have the SLR available soon with a nice Paul Long sheath. He makes them in vertical, horizontal or in the pocket EDC with a clip.

Thanks again!

Jerry
