Jerry, I'm dissapointed in you!

Howdy all!

Sorry for not seeing this earlier and responding . . . .Mark contacted me a while ago and asked permission to use the talon hole, etc. on a couple of blades for his own personal use and I gave him the green light to "go". . . I have to admit though that I wouldn't have remembered this German maker's name as the fella who was assisting him and would have thought that he had closely copied a number of our design features as well if Mark hadn’t jumped in here. We DO NOT give general use of the talon hole without written permission, but Mark did have our permission for these particular, personal use blades.

I appreciate all of the HOGs who find these look-alikes as we have been "infringed" on many times before, and if not for the help of the HOG Patrol we might not have known for several months.

I can not begin to tell you the number of well known and lesser known makers and manufacturers who have either totally copied or have copied a number of our design elements either accidentally or intentionally. The only design feature that we fiercely enforce is the talon hole, as it is a registered trademark of Busse Knife Co. I could point you to a large number of knives, currently in production, which would be almost indiscernible from some of the Busse designs if they had a talon hole. I've heard the endless arguments and lame excuses that many design features have been around for thousands of years and therefore belong to the general public. Whereas that may be true in some cases like blade shape , etc., the unique combination of these features coupled with there proportions and other design elements make them uniquely Busse Combat. Many design features are Busse originals and it does get frustrating when we get knocked off. Most makers and manufacturers have been very gracious and professional about moving off of these design features when they have been informed. . . others have not. One manufacturer that we had to pursue boldly claimed to have never seen a Busse Combat blade, even though our records proved that the owner, himself, had purchased one of our blades direct from the Busse Combat Shop, several months before its introduction into their line. Oh well. . . . .

Rant off. . . . all is well. . . beautiful knives you have there Mark. . . my congrats to both you and Juergen on a job well done.

Nuke on my talon hole loving friends!!!

Jerry:D

Thank you very much for the clarification of the facts, Jerry. Much appreciated at this point.
Kind regards

i´d no fun to answer to anything what is written in this tread or also in some others in other forums, because the people allways write and dont ask me if i have the permission or not - but i think some should say here

I think it means " apology or apologize".

Jurgen and Mark,

I hereby offer my public apology for my remarks regarding the blades. They are indeed fine workmanship, I was just very surprsied to hear Jerry giving permission to use his trademark. It is his to grant and I must have missed it when the topic came up a while back. All I can offer in my own defense is a rabid loyalty to the man and his compnay's products. If other had no blatantly ripped him off in the past, I am sure many of our reactions would not have been so harsh. Again I say that it is definitely fine craftsmanship and you should both be proud of what came from your collaboration.

Hey, if these are simply modified Busses that was work done for a customer who submitted the knife to him I have no problem.

Also, if Jerry already gave this guy permission then who am I to have an issue? However, I seem to recall a comment Jerry made a few years back on the forums that he had a patent on the Talon Hole (or it could've been a Trade Mark if it was considered to be a mark that identies the knife as a Busse), and that he shut down a few knife makers who were putting it on their knives.

It didn't appear that this was originally a Busse because I'm not familiar with a model that large with an oversized AD handle. It looked like a Frankenstein design of certain features of many different Busse models all mixed up into one.

Mark23, if that's your knife that you commissioned him to modify, then congrats. It looks pretty sweet.

I hope it was obvious to most that 98% of my comments were tongue-in-cheek. Maybe 100% of it was foot-in-mouth as well, but I sure had fun.

Your apology is gladly accepted. It is very nice to see that at least some of you guys also have the guts to concede that you were wrong and apologise. :)

Again, thank you very much for the clarification of the facts, Jerry.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Kind regards
