Jerry Rados lost his shop to a tornado on Sunday march 8th. I don't know the exact extent of the damage, he was not injured.:(

That is bad news! Glad he is ok though. It looks like he is about 2 counties to the NE from me... We had crazy wind where I live, but luckily everything was still standing in the morning. I think Karl Andersen us up near there too... Hopefully he and his shop are ok.

If there's ever been a reason for a fund raiser, this would certainly qualify.
I just returned from there and helped for a while to clear enough debris to get to the remains.
Jerry had just lit the forge and went into the house to let it heat up, maybe with a delay of about 7-8 minutes.
He was that close to being in it when the micro burst hit.
The entire neighborhood is without power at this time and he has no internet access. I drove down a few roads surrounding his house and there are power lines down everytwhere. It may be a few days before he is back in touch with everyone.
I can be contacted for help in getting Jerry some MUCH NEEDED FUNDS at this time.
He said he would gladly take whatever he could get.
I have Paypal on my web site and this could be used to help Jerry out in this dramatic time of need.

Good Lord, is that his shop now? :( Karl, I just paypaled a small donation through your site. It's not much, but it'll keep beans and bread on the table for a couple days. Thanks for taking charge! And of course, thanks to Indian George for starting the thread.

Just think, guys, that could have been any of us. Anyone interested in auctioning off some knives or tools?

edit: I just realized y'all are in Illinois... that's ok, I'll still help :D

That's a real shame. What a freakin' shambles. I didn't watch the news at all this weekend, Karl, so didn't know that "Tornado Alley" got smacked again. I'm glad to hear Jerry is unscathed.

Mike, I let him know you "pitched in" and he wanted me to convey his sincerest gratitude.
It was so spooky around here yesterday that I stayed in the house.
I was fearful of spending any time in the shop for fear of being in it if a tree fell on it!

Geez.... what a mess! That's painful just to look at. I'm tight on cash until Friday, but I'll send what I can this weekend. I'm glad you guys are ok.

I'm sorry, I'll get with the missus and see if we can do something.

If nothing else I have some nice red deer stag that I'm willing to auction or sell to help raise funds.

Please let him know that he's in our thoughts and prayers.

I sent what I could. I don't know Jerry that well, just met him at Ashokan a couple of times but love his work and he was nice enough to help me try to forge (didn't work out for me, but not because of his lack of help, I'm just not a forger). Best wishes to him and his family and to a quick recovery from this disaster.

What tornado? That looks like my shop does all the time.

Sorry to hear about this. Glad he was not in there.

i will do my bills and see what i can send. growing up we lost a barn with all our hay and livestock to a twister. its very scary to think that you could have been there when it happend.

That really sucks. The good thing is that no one got hurt.

Mother natures way of saying "you spend too much time in the shop"? :p
j/k. Sorry for your loss, Jerry.

Holy tornado! Talk about guardian angels. Looks like Jerry's was on the job that day. Sure glad he stepped out and was missed! Reminds me of a cartoon I saw many years ago in Playboy or the New Yorker or some such. There's a guy in a prison yard in striped prison attire. There's a little rain cloud right over him raining on him. The caption read something like, "Oh, that's Jerry. He committed a crime against nature." Say, does any of that wood have any good figure in it? :D

All the best Jerry from all of us!!!

Humbly, Phil

PS - Karl, I sent a little via your website donation button too.

I'm sure sorry for Mr Rados' loss and am thankful no one was hurt. I can imagine the awful sinking feeling you'd have looking at your shop torn apart like that. I am willing to donate something worthwhile for a fundraising auction if that gets off the ground, please let me know or indicate it in this thread.

IG and James, thanks for the heads up.

Everybody's thoughts and contributions, which have been many, are so appreciated at this time.
Jerry's "neighborhood" was hit so hard, he still has no electricity and has no internet access!
Meaning, he hasn't visited any of the sites where his dilemma is being discussed.
I hope he will be along shortly to give thanks to you all.

Bump so no one misses this :)

I see the custom collectors are helping out too, very cool. Thanks again IG for letting everyone know.
