Jerry Rados lost his shop to a tornado on Sunday march 8th. I don't know the exact extent of the damage, he was not injured.:(

I'll probably run up today.
The wind here was absolutely BRUTAL all day long.
His forging area, where he keeps his hammers and heavy equipment - is gone.
The finish area is still standing.
He had just taken a break from forging and had gone into the house.
Good thing for him!
The forge is a sheet metal building with sheet metal roof. He probably would have been cut to shreads!
The forge is now scattered all over the countryside.
Jerry is ok, but now needs to patch things back together.

Really sorry to hear this, but sounds as though it could have been much worst. Thank God it wasn't.

Glad to hear that he is physically OK.....if we need to do a drive, benefit, or some sort of finance gathering event for Jerry, please alert us here or at the CKCA....we did some sort of event for Raymond Richard a few years back when he lost his shop, and it yielded some good coin.

just the thought of all those hammers, anvils, gas tanks etc. flying around puts chills up my spine.
Thank god Jerry wasn't in there when this went down. I'm sure he's counting his lucky stars as we speak.

The concept of a fundraiser is great, and really shows how community oriented this community is. If there's any way you can think of that I can help with a fundraiser, Steven, I'd be glad to help.

If there's ever been a reason for a fund raiser, this would certainly qualify.
I just returned from there and helped for a while to clear enough debris to get to the remains.
Jerry had just lit the forge and went into the house to let it heat up, maybe with a delay of about 7-8 minutes.
He was that close to being in it when the micro burst hit.
The entire neighborhood is without power at this time and he has no internet access. I drove down a few roads surrounding his house and there are power lines down everytwhere. It may be a few days before he is back in touch with everyone.
I can be contacted for help in getting Jerry some MUCH NEEDED FUNDS at this time.
He said he would gladly take whatever he could get.
I have Paypal on my web site and this could be used to help Jerry out in this dramatic time of need.

I am sorry to hear this!! Thank God he wasn't in there!! I am glad it isn't worse.

Sorry to hear about the unfortunate damage. Happy to hear no one was hurt!

I'll gladly send along something to help out.

OUCH!!!! But looking at the pics, it apparently would take a lot bigger storm to move those hammers!!! That is some freaky weather you have out there!!

wow, major carnage factor going on there.:(

Karl,

Why don't you put together an auction? If you need help, there might be some experienced people that I can direct you to, and would of course provide something desirable towards the auction.

Steve, we need all the help we can get.
I'm glad you brought this up, and you are about the fourth person to do so.
I would have absolutely NO IDEA how to put something like this together.
Not even where to begin.

As an old fireman this could have been much worse, the site of that propane tank in the mist of all that rubble is a wake up call. With his forge running and the propane lines being ripped off it could have been a lots of excitement. Glad no one was hurt! let us know what we can do to help. Bill

Sad news. At least he was not hurt and will be able to put things back together.

I wish him well and hope he is back forging soon.

Peter

That´s very, very sad but as we say in Brazil, the only thing you can´t fix is death, and I am sure it is just a matter of time until he is back on the trail.
If there will be a fund raising effort of some kind, I´ll be glad to help as I can - just drop me a line.

Just thought I'd "bump" this and point out that Jerry is a good ol' Marine who served his country well during the Vietnam war.
He's not humble about being a Marine, but he might be a little too humble to think that it should make any difference here.
I'm making this post of my own volition.
Helping him out now would be a good way to help "pay" him back for his service to his country.
