Watching "An Axe to Grind" has got me seriously wanting a Jersey Pattern Axe. I will continue to look for an older U.S. made one, but what do you think about this for the short-term?

It seems to have better "phantom bevels" that the Council Tool version. And it I am going to have to spend a bunch of time reworking it anyway, I think I may want to start on the inexpensive side.

Thoughts?

It won't hold an edge very well, so seems like a waste of money and energy. I would think you would be more satisfied with your efforts on an older piece, even if it is your first. check the antique malls and such. I checked a few shops and saw several exes, bought one, but not a jersey pattern. I plan to drop in more shops in my travels this week.

Thanks Guys. I'll pass. I have a long drive ahead of me today, part of which goes by some good antique stores.

Sucka' I picked up a True Temper Jersey pattern single bit in pretty nice condition today at an antique mall for $10. (and no! you can't have it) handle is slightly warped, but the head has not been abused. I also got a splitting maul with junk handle and nice head. #3 a sledge hammer with a really old style head. #4 an old school spade and know how to properly use it. I'll hit some more shops in coming days and will post a photo of my loot next week

John, Did you find an Axe head to make over yet?

As mentioned in my post above, I hit some antique shops on a recent trip and priced up some project pieces. it was a fun pursuit, so keep at it if you don't have one yet.
