Was looking at a few knives today and saw a Jess Horn in white. Was this a factory option? When was it made?

Not only does A.G. Russell have the white micarta, they also have flat ground Jess Horns! Now THAT`S something to write home about. I believe they had a mini-Jess Horn too. Glad to see such diversity in one of my very favorite Spyderco patterns.

IMHO, the Greatest, Jess Horn of all, was the original collaboration, C27. Jigged bone scales, and a traditional look, spearpoint blade, in ATS 34, no hole, just an indent, for one hand opening. Talk about your oddities! This has to be the Winner. Of all the great items Spyderco makes, there is nothing, that I would rather own.

PhilL,
I have one of those C27's. It is the prize of my collection. I've seen custom knives that are not nearly as nice as this little folder. Polished liners inside and out. Beautiful bone and a sculpted clip. It's so nice I hacen't been able to bring myself to carry it. They are apparently still being marketed in Japan uder the Moki name, I've been trying to locate one.

Them:"What's that clipped to your pocket, a beeper?"
Me:"Uuh....yeah, something like that."

Paul, I wish you good luck in your search.

Let me ask you a tough question, if you could have just one Spyderco, would it be the C27?

PhilL

Oh man, Phil, you ask the hard questions. The Jess Horn (C27) is probably the nicest Spyderco I have, and one of the nicest folders I have. I'm not sure if it would be as useful as some of the others (Calypso Jr, etc) though. If I could keep only two, it would definitely be one of them.

Okay Paul, let's try this again. You get your second C27, now would you use one, save the other, and get rid of the Calypso Jr. etc.?

Where did those little boxes come from?

NOOOooooooooooooooooo! Stop it.....LOL. The Horn is a classy little knife. I have seen pics of the white micarta one, VERY chic indeed!

Hmmmmmm..... just IMAGINE a Calypso JR. with WHITE micarta in VG-10 (or some 440V), and a silver clip!

hello,
This is my first posting on this or any knife forum. I have a Spyderco C-27 new in the small case. I would like to sell it. I saw Mr. Davidson might like another one. I e-mailed Jess Horn last night and he said they are very hard to find. Anyone interested please e-mail me and I will get back to you.

Magilla,
There is a "For Sale" forums here at Bladeforums. All you need to do is post there about your knife. Don't forget to include the price you are asking. Then wait for an email.
Did you say you emailed Jess Horn?? I didn't know he had an email. Cool.

Blades

Thanks Blades, sorry for the mix up. My kids were screaming in my ears and I was already little nervous after reading some of the forum trash that cruddy knife salesman earlier in the week. I will post the knife in the proper section. and yes, Mr. Horn does have a site and e-mail address

No problem, just trying to help out alittle. Can you post Jess Horn's website address?? I'd like to go visit. Thanks!!

Blades

OK, am I the only one who does NOT like the seemingly random variety of Spyderco? Don't get me wrong, I like Spyderco; in fact, I have recently become a hole convert. Here's my problem: 7 different handle materials, 3 blade steels, 2 different grinds, etc., and there is no method to the madness in the way these are distributed. For instance, the micarta Calypso Jr. has a flat grind, yet the steel version is hollow ground. I would absolutely LOVE for someone to attempt to explain this to me. Please understand that this is not intended as a put-down, but more of a gripe... For those of you involved with the company, please allow to me to suggest a design:
~Native handle and blade WITHOUT a swedge, ~ATS-55, maybe flat ground,
~G-10, carbon fiber, or "volcano grip" (that bidirectional radiation pattern has NO grip),
~pins like those of the Police and Rookie
~put together so that there is no blade play (yes, that would sacrifice the blade's immediate swing due to the depression of the lock would be lost- BIG DEAL! This would be more gain than loss)

Make this knife at an affordable price ($60 or less), and it would absolutely put any other lockback on the market to shame!

Sal,
You've got mail. Sorry I haven't been here in a few days, I almost missed your post. Whatever you need my address for thanks in advance.
PhilL

PhilL - thanx. Will explain.

Howie - I asnwerred the question of the new design idea on the other thread on the same subject.

Regarding the variety; The company has been run for the past 25 years by a "metaphysical Engineer" knife nut that loves R & D. "Jump higher, run faster" is the goal. We're always testing something new.

I believe that if you investigate further, you will find far more variety than you listed.

It seems that this "madness" has made it difficult for some, such as dealers. This is why we have recently cut out more than a third of the models and hired a new General Manager to bring order and sanity to Spyderco.

They will allow me unlimited R & D development, but we can only offer no more than 5 new models per year.

There are many highly knowledgable forumites and I do and will solicit their help in selection of these 5 models.

Thank for the support & the interest. Hope this helps.
