I sort of agree, except that polished G-10 gives pretty much the same "look" and, while "original recipe" Micarta made with phenolic resin has an advantage in terms of "feel", I'm not sure how much of Norplex's current production uses that.Yep, I love that.
Makes me sad there are no more Spydies available with Micarta.
Nice catch Remnar! Definitely the best of the Jesters.

I could be mistaken, but I seem to recall Sal mentioning that there were issues with shrinkage and attributing it to the differences in humidity levels between Japan and Golden.Did you ever hear of actual reasoning why Spyderco stopped producing knives with Micarta?
I remember reading it may have been due to some batches warping, or something along those lines, but I don't know how true that is...?

I know there were issues with clip screws pulling out of unlined Micarta handles, but the same thing happens with G-10 and CF if they're unlined and wouldn't be an issue with the Jester, since it doesn't have a clip. My memory is probably no more reliable than yours but, IIRC, chipping was more of an issue with gloss CF than anything else and I don't recall cracking issues with any of the man made materials, only with the natural ones.Shrinkage, hehehe!
I also recall something similar being said. I think there was some mention that micarta is harder to work with and had problems with cracking and/or chipping. This comes from my own feeble memories so take it with a grain of salt.![]()
