Hi all

I am considering buying a 4"x6" metal-cutting bandsaw for cutting out blade profiles. I make knives via stock removal out of 3/16" O-1 flat stock, mostly. I am kind of on a budget but I want
to get the best tool for my money. I have looked at most of the various makes of this particular tool: Harbor Freight,
Grizzly, Delta, Tradesman, Jet, etc. I purchased a HF bandsaw but returned it because I wasn't very happy with their castings wheel alignment and blade guides. I have a
place near where I live that sells the Jet 4"x 6" metal cutting bandsaw (HVBS-463) for $240. I know many of this forum's users have these bandsaws and I know at least one of them has a Jet (I tried to send him a personal message but the address wouldn't work). For those who have used the Jet, I was just curious what you thought of the machine; how do you like it, is there anything you don't like about it, do
you think it is worth paying more for it than the other knock-offs, etc?
Oh, and is that 1/2 HP motor strong enough, I would think one would need more horses.
I sure would be thankful for any info/advice anyone can share with me before I make a purchase.

Thanks,

Wapati, Yes I have a jet that I use almost daily. The motor is fine because it is geared so slow. I profile blades plus all the fabrication projects in the shop. It cuts slots for gaurds nicely too. It is vertical and horizontal. I just set down and make myself comfortable on it when in vertical position. The best blades are bi-metal about $26 ea. Go slow and they last longer. The cheap $8 blades will last on mild steel only. I too sent back a Harbor Freight before buying the jet. I think it works good for the money. Bruce Bump

Thanks Bruce, Steve and Magnum.
I appreciate the responses and information.
I think I am going to go for the Jet.
Thanks
