I received 4 sets of dyed bone scales and noticed that they are bleeding dye very badly (2 are red so it does look like blood). I talked to the supplier and they told me to wash them in dish soap and it will get rid of the problem. I soaled them in soap for a couple of hours and then washed them, rinsing each one 3 times, yet the dye is still coming off. Should I just repeat the soap process a few more times or are there any other techniques to use. I don't want to put them on a blade and have the users hand get a one color tattoo. FWIW the red looks brown on the scales and one almost looks black so I am not the happiest with them either- any suggestions for getting the color to show through better or will continuous washing help.

Thanks in advance!

At the risk of public embarrassment, would wiping them down with an acetone wash work?

I spray them with carb and choke cleaner (Wal Mart for about $1.50 per can). It also works well for removing unset epoxi from the blade and handle.
