Jim Bowie is spinning in his grave!

So i could walk outside with my 8in KaBar camp knife and not get busted by the ark. police?

If you stay on your own property, nobody can say anything about it.

Also, you can use a Bowie for hunting and/or camping, and travelling to and from.

Not that I like or even agree with the law (any law that restricts knife carry sucks), but is there any real reason for somebody to carry around a 7, 8, 10, 12 or whatever inch bladed Bowie knife?

I doubt your going to get into trouble for having one out at your campsite or in your backyard, or any other place that it would actually be of practical use.

What's the big deal?

5.5" limit is still a damn big knife IMO. Carry your Cuda Maxx 5.5 around town, you'll still have a bigger knife on you than 99.999% of the people out there, and you'll be leagal. Save you Bowie for chopping up kindling for the campfire.

Its a natural right, a god given right, a constitutionally recognized right,
to keep and bear arms, only reason you need :D

this is just another one of those things where the government tries to take away rights from criminals and only take them away from the people who don't break the law on a regular basis.

We can carry bowies in Nh. Another interesting thing is nobody has ever been convicted in Mass. of an unregistered handgun. The law has been on the books for many years, but the liberal judges don't put anyone away for it, as far as I know. Remember one thing, liberal people want to give the bad guys a break. They may have a lot of screwy laws, but they seldom send anyone away to prison unless it is a very serious offense, like rape , murder, etc.

You know what, the hell with them. Break the law, who cares. I'm from Boston, we don't give a rats ass about the law. I never have. When we were kids your mother told you not to do something because you would get in trouble, not because it was wrong. This nit wit I had to work with in another area recently told me his 10 year old son sold tomatoes on a table in front of his house. the kid would put out $10 worth of veggies and sometimes he would only have $5 in the till. He told his son when the boy asked why there was only $5 there, that it was what the people thought they were worth. basically candy coating the fact that some prick stole his wares. I asked my co-worker Kenny, who is originaly from NY city, what they would have told the boy who got his veggies stolen down there. He said they would have told the kid to break the assholes fingers. I said where I'm from they would have hit the guy with a two by four with three nails in it. Remember the rule, there's never a cop when you need one. that's a fact.

dont feel too bad--SC until very recently had a 2 in knife limit until it was overturned by AKTI persistence..how stupid can this PCBS get...answer REALLY RRRREEEAALLLLYYYY stupid. And I wholehartedly agree cops are never there unless u need them thank God and Gaston for Glock

Now, now, A.G--

I don't think Bowie is spinning in his grave.

He's used to that attitude.

I'm sure that Santa Anna considered him a criminal.

BTW, I'm pretty sure that San Antonio has some pretty restrictive knife laws, so if Col. Bowie ever climbs out of the grave and claims one of the Bowies on display at the Alamo, he's going straight to the hoosegow.

Yep, you don't need that 500hp Corvette. You don't need that big ol' pickup. You don't need that kind of wattage in your stereo. You don't need that dual-outboard cigarette boat. Life is just full of stuff we don't need, and, it would seem, there's no lack of people to tell us that.

I am somewhat ignorant of knife laws in my native SC. I had no clue about the 2 inch restriction or its being thrown out until I read about today on this site. I've been carrying a yellow-handled Case Trapper (3.5 inch blade) since around the time I could walk and it's been found by the cops plenty of times. They always give it back.

Welcome to the forums!

You shouldn't leave your knife lying around for the cops to find. They aren't very responsible people!:D

Really, though; why do the cops have so many opportunities to handle your knife?

My knife is seldom lying around anywhere but my pocket. As for why I have so much interaction with them, it's a small town and cops are bored. They pull people just to have some human contact I think, and when they do they always ask if they can search me. Since I never carry anything illegal or even dangerous other than my tools for work and my knife, I usually let them. And thanks for the welcome, by the way.

I getcha. About the cops, I don't think I would be so patient with them, though, after the first time.

I live in Massachusetts. The gun law requires licenses to possess or carry firearms, even in your own home. You purchase a handgun or long gun from a Massachusetts dealer and he/she registers it with the state's Criminal History Systems Board - Firearm Support Services. For a private sale, in or out of state, you must register the purchase with the state using a FA-10 form, available from any police station. Failure to do so is a felony, carrying hefty fines and jail sentences. Also, you must possess the appropriate class of license for the firearms that you own (FID, LTC-A or LTC-B). Failure to do so is also a felony carrying MANDATORY jail sentences. Most martial arts knives are illegal, as well as automatic knives and ballistic knives.
