JIMMY FIKES HAS PASSED AWAY

My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Another iconic maker has left us. Rest in peace.

Very sad news indeed!!

My condolences to his family and any friends he has on here.

Jimmy Fikes played a big role in my exposure to, and enjoyment of cord wrapped handles and turks head knots on knife handles (along with Phil Hartsfield and others).

His Cloud Cutter really captured my attention and imagination with the lovely cloud hamons, and wrapped handles. His makers stamp, lines and handles have a very distinctive and immediately recognizable presence.

He will be missed.

I knew Jimmy for years, he was one of the best folks in the knife world. He was an amazing artist, doubtful many know how really talented he was. Jimmy kept to himself, e-mail was best to stay in touch. I know a few of us have really appreciated his work and are fortunate to have interacted with him. R.I.P, Jimmy.

Sorry to hear this. Condolences to his friends and family.

Last I spoke with jimmy was in 2019 when i asked for his blessing for Mirabile to make me. Jungle Honey

jimmy was a gracious and generous man and gave us his blessing

here is his response to another email in reference to coming to Blade and cutting 2X4’s

great man

............

Joe,

You'll make the two by four cut easily. Most people never learn how to commit themselves to making a cut and wind up half-arsing it. You know how to commit and you'll sail through the two by four in two cuts. I came pretty close to making it through in one cut using a katana.... but it was always a bit shy.

Coming to the Blade Show is something I would really like to do, but the chances of me being there are about as close to zero as they can get. There are a number of physical problems that prevent me from having fun at something like Blade. The main problem is that I have vertigo (and the docs can't find anything that would cause it) so badly that at times I can't even walk without a walking stick/staff to prop myself on. My balance varies from "barely there" to "totally gone". I sometimes joke that my nickname should be Tripod.

But if I were to get over to Atlanta, you can be sure I'll look you up. Would really like to meet you... and see some of my other old cronies to tell lies and shoot the breeze.

Jimmy

This is sad news, Joe. As you know Jimmy said I cloud make a cloud cutter as well, and wanted to see it when finished. Not feeling at all good about dawdling on that.

Rest In Peace. Legends never die.
