Well I didn't know if this was a review... off topic... survival... so no prefix. I just wanted to post this because my little man was so proud of it.

I recently bought a JK Mini Nessmuk and a couple of tin knifes (he even threw in another tin knife. For orders over a certain amount, he does this) from Stomper over at his forum. This was my first foray into buying a handmade knife and did he ever make the experience enjoyable. The Nessmuk was for me and the tin knives I put into altoid tin survival/fire starting kits for my 16 year old and his buddy. Their birthdays fell on the same day. We couldn't have been more pleased with the work and the service that stomper provided. Since then I have constantly lurked on his forum and shopped his wares. Thank god he doens't do credit cards.

We have a Tipi in our back woods (we live on a farm with a good portion wooded) and camp every other weekend. It's easy and fun and the boys (16 and 5) really love it. We make fires without matches, we make dead fall traps and talk about survival and wilderness skills. It's not really going out in the wilderness but we can still have fun and build our skills and spend time together as a family. The wife and 2 year old usually come down for dinner and then we are on our own.

On our last camping outing, a couple of weeks ago, my five year old really begged for a knife. I, in all my infinite compassion and wisdom, informed him that he was much too spazzy to have his own knife. I thought that was that. I still thought about it and collected a few survival things out of my retired stuff and bought a couple other things and made him a survival lanyard. He took one look and burst into tears. It didn't have a knife. He wasn't spazzy anymore and was hurt that I didn't know that.

well...

Recently this little knife came up

I thought it would be the perfect size so I asked Stomper if he could take that knife and "unsharpen it" a little bit. He answered (as he does to almost any question you ask) yes. I asked him if he wanted to charge a little extra to do the unsharpening and he said no, no extra charge.

Well my little man is happier then anything and has been shaving sticks, cutting grass, cutting weeds and striking firesteel since we went to the mailbox this afternoon. He could NOT be a happier little fellow.

Geeze that is a lot of writing... here are some pics...

on of dad's and son's together. He had to have a dice just like dad's :)

both with their pants on

his first description of the knife was "super bad ass"

They say it's not your knife till it's "bit" ya. now he knows how important it is to carve away from your body.

proud and spazzy. I'm glad I left a space open on that lanyard

His super survivorman boysclub lanyard/necklace/thingy

Mr Spaz himself

I think it's probably the most excited he's been about anything I've ever bought him.

Thanks Stomper for a great knife and a great memory with many more to come.

WOW that was great what you did for your son. John makes some neat knives and that one you got for your son will sure make his day as is sounds like it already did LOL.

I to live on a farm in Neb. and do not get to go the real wilds LOL but I have a area that I really like to go to. Got a pic of your tipi? You could show us.

Very Cool think you did for your son. I know you will look after him and help in his knife learning.

Again great job.

I just might have a couple of pictures...

This was another "money well spent" item. I had been looking on the internet for a tipi and they were going anywhere from 1500 up to 2000 for this size tipi (18') and i thought, well that's too much money.

I punched in tipi on craig's list and there was one about 20 miles away for 400. I snapped that thing up that day and we have been camping fools ever since. We leave it up 24-7 and that is way easier than carting down all the tents and camping gear every time you want to camp out. I just recently bought a bunch of waterproof bags big enough for all the sleeping bags so we keep them down there all the time also. We just have to bring our blades and our eats and we are ready to go!

I had to take a look at that one myself. Havent pulled the trigger on a custom just yet ( well, got the WSS on the way) but did glance twice at Stompers. It went to the right home by the looks of it. You may be close to home but enjoy all the short time ya got with the young'uns cause it seems to fly by.

WOW that is cool. I did not think that it would be so roomy. A co worker I used to work with has a cousin in Lincoln Ne. who has a tent making shop and from what my frien told me does tipis also and told me, I should go and take a look at his cousins shop.
I have not doen it yet but boy that makes me want to now LOL after seeing yours.
I was telling my nephew that we need to make one up and try it out. He said How!
I said I an thinking on it LOL don't rush boy LOL.

I think in the next week I am going to head up and take a look at that tent shop.
Thanks for posting the pics.

No problem and yeah it is very roomy and having the fire in there is very cool as well. I think the toughest part about doing them is finding the right logs. I think i developed an ulcer in just the 30 minutes of driving with them strapped down to my truck.

Awesome. I cant wait for my son to go camping with me. Hes only a month old right now hehe. Stomper makes some great knives. i got a nessmuk and a urban tank from him earlier this week and couldnt be happier.

Really neato, and I'm jealous of you having a son too. I see you're in GA. Where bouts?

We are east of atlanta in covington georgia.

and yeah... they do grow like weeds. Sons are great, you keep expecting them to be little yous but they always end up being little thems.

so different and so funny.
