Well I didn't know if this was a review... off topic... survival... so no prefix. I just wanted to post this because my little man was so proud of it.
I recently bought a JK Mini Nessmuk and a couple of tin knifes (he even threw in another tin knife. For orders over a certain amount, he does this) from Stomper over at his forum. This was my first foray into buying a handmade knife and did he ever make the experience enjoyable. The Nessmuk was for me and the tin knives I put into altoid tin survival/fire starting kits for my 16 year old and his buddy. Their birthdays fell on the same day. We couldn't have been more pleased with the work and the service that stomper provided. Since then I have constantly lurked on his forum and shopped his wares. Thank god he doens't do credit cards.
We have a Tipi in our back woods (we live on a farm with a good portion wooded) and camp every other weekend. It's easy and fun and the boys (16 and 5) really love it. We make fires without matches, we make dead fall traps and talk about survival and wilderness skills. It's not really going out in the wilderness but we can still have fun and build our skills and spend time together as a family. The wife and 2 year old usually come down for dinner and then we are on our own.
On our last camping outing, a couple of weeks ago, my five year old really begged for a knife. I, in all my infinite compassion and wisdom, informed him that he was much too spazzy to have his own knife. I thought that was that. I still thought about it and collected a few survival things out of my retired stuff and bought a couple other things and made him a survival lanyard. He took one look and burst into tears. It didn't have a knife. He wasn't spazzy anymore and was hurt that I didn't know that.
well...

I thought it would be the perfect size so I asked Stomper if he could take that knife and "unsharpen it" a little bit. He answered (as he does to almost any question you ask) yes. I asked him if he wanted to charge a little extra to do the unsharpening and he said no, no extra charge.
Well my little man is happier then anything and has been shaving sticks, cutting grass, cutting weeds and striking firesteel since we went to the mailbox this afternoon. He could NOT be a happier little fellow.
Geeze that is a lot of writing... here are some pics...

on of dad's and son's together. He had to have a dice just like dad's

both with their pants on

his first description of the knife was "super bad ass"

They say it's not your knife till it's "bit" ya. now he knows how important it is to carve away from your body.

proud and spazzy. I'm glad I left a space open on that lanyard

I think it's probably the most excited he's been about anything I've ever bought him.
Thanks Stomper for a great knife and a great memory with many more to come.
