JK Budget Hunter (Pics)

The camera lens breaking sucks +1. That is the kind of thing that happens to me. A 1 in a million accident that still manages to make you feel stupid.

That is a nice little knife and I especially like your set up with the trailHawk and 2 knives.
I usually do a big bowie /hawk and a smaller sharp companion knife but having 2 might be a good idea especially if I do any hunting or trapping.

How is the edge geometry on the knife? It is a tough decision to make it super sharp but a little delicate or tough and to obtuse to slice well.

Dude my luck has sucked lately. When that happened I beat the f&*% out of my workbench with the hammer. Kinda sent me over the edge. I stopped, drank me a cold boulevard, and chilled with a beer and a smoke. I felt better, stropped that bad boy up, and its awaiting round 3.

The edge geometry is good. I will admit I am not very knowledgeable with convex blades but it was sharp, even, and cut great.

Mine was 0 degree bevel. Sharp as hell. Edge is holding up rather well! Stays sharp a great while, and strops up great. John did a great job convexing mine.

My instructions to these two guys was to abuse them as much as they could. I always made my blades out of O1 steel, but had been working with 1095 for about four months before I was ready to put them up for sale. These guys are my test team, I told them if they could not break them, send them back for real handles if they wanted them. I also had not been offering convex edges before, but a lot of guys wanted them, so here we are.

John

Nice, I was a bit worried seeing they dug a fire pit with the blade, but didn't fully realize they were a test team. :D
Looks like you got the heat treat right in that 1095, it's a good tough steel, and much cheaper then O1.
Very nice location as well, and sorry about your camera.

Hey TFin, glad to see you guys enjoying Stinchfield Woods. That spot you took the photo from on the top of the ridge is a great spot for stargazing on a clear night. And I totally agree with you on the Mill Creek-Pub-DQ combo.

Yes indeed thanks for the tip. A lot of land out there yet to explore. Parking sucks though... :(

John,
Sounds like a good idea to have some of these guys here testing blades out for you, that's the best way to find out what really works. Looks like a pretty good team to test them for you too.

Park in the big empty lot on the south side of North Territorial just west of Dexter-Pinckney across from the access road to the Animal Clinic. Walk through the gate and up the road and you end up in the old gravel pit area. There are trails to both the east and west to take you into the woods.
