Hey guys, I got my address. What are the rules if any for things to send? Value over/under? Handmade stuff ok? Give y'alls ideas so we can come up with our ideas.
thanks

I know this is not the answer you are likely looking for but here is my Long winded view on it, sorry ahead of time folks.
----------

AFAIK there is no dollar value, but I know I don't want someone to feel like they got the short end of the stick, handmade is ok, as is modded stuff (though most mods are a personal preference, so I might be careful with those).

I took what I could from the person's name that I was given and I did some detective work and was able to get a decent idea who I have from the list.
After that I looked at the persons posts to get an idea of what they are into so I can actually give them some things that feel they will genuinely enjoy and would possibly have picked up for themselves had I not of beat them to the punch.

Honestly, I sort of felt like a cross between a creep, a stalker and a detective during it all. But I know that it is for someone's enjoyment and doing so allowed me to tailor my gifts to the individual makes it worth it for me. It took me some time to come to this idea of researching who I am gifting, and until then I was entirely lost in regards as to what to give them.

If anyone feels that this isn't in the spirit of the gift exchange and would prefer that even the gifters not know who they have, then I don't know what else to say aside from:
I honestly feel that when giving a gift, you should know the type of person and their interests so you can actually give them something that has some thought and heart behind it.

If that is not possible, then it is entirely understandable, Especially due to the nature of a gift exchange.

I don't want to know who is gifting something to me, but if they do what I did, I would understand the effort that went into to it, as well as the struggle to figure out what to gift blindly to someone you don't know the interests of.
Either way, there is an added level of appreciation coming from me after this exercise.

got mine as well,

I don't think there are any rules, except maybe: make it fun, make it nice?

I've received confirmation emails from everyone, you guys are good to go!

All I ever send is a dozen Lead Pennies and they better be happy they at least got something.! hehe
Just don't spend them all in one place.*

Sounds good to me, just wanted to make sure I did not mess anything up. I think it would be cool if we start a "what I got" thread so when people get their gift they can post a few pics. It would make me feel better knowing that the person received the package I sent. I've already figured out who my person is, I'll do some post reading when I have a day off and try and come up with something cool for them.

If anyone has any doubts about who someone is just email me. It would have been smart of me to include the forum name in my emails, but I've never been accused of being smart!

i've done a few of these before. and, they are always great. having a "limit" is a good idea, but no one ever sticks to it anyway. i have felt bad before when i see that someone got something wicked cool, and then i think "sheesh, my guy must be disappointed with my gift".

but now, i have changed my mindset. give what you can. and that's enough. know what i mean?

anyways....i missed last year's exchange. so, i am glad to be able to participate again this year. looking forward to it.

cheers gents.

Exactly - give what you feel comfortable with. Bless others as you can. Let other's bless you as they are able.

It's always fun, and please do post pictures, if you can, when you get your gift.

Here's a link to last year's exchange: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1231897-Christmas-Gift-Exchange
Before getting the name of the member receiving my gift I had everything figured out. A little digging on my part revealed another idea that I hope will be even better. Thanks again John and Merry Christmas everyone.

hmmm....
box showed up today from Iowa -- if it's my gift, I don't really want to open it yet -- but if it's not, or if there's something inside that shouldn't be left to sit for another 3 weeks.....

When should we send our gifts?
I have mine picked out, im just waiting to see what yall do.

I've figured out what I am going to send, plan on getting it boxed up this weekend and going by the post office next week. I figure as long as it arrives before Christmas all is good.
