I've had this for a while, received it new from JK, and when I got it I struck the fire steel a couple times. That's all I remember doing with it, but must of cut something with it also, because there is some patina on the blade. This just hasn't seen any use from me, been sitting in a drawer, so time to move it along to somebody else.
