So Cal Geodudes has the team to beat in my opinion.
You veterans please feel free to help explain the rules and give a little helpful advice here for the new folks.
In this league, every week you will have to field a roster of:
1 quarterback
2 wide receivers
2 running backs
1 flex (you can play a wide receiver, a running back or a tight end in this slot (I am not 100% sure about the TE)
1 tight end
1 kicker
1 defense
Watch your players - go to your team and look for player names with a little icon next to them - a P means they will "probably" play, a Q means they are questionable, and an O means they are out - don't play players that are out - they have a hard time scoring for you from the bench.
Your QB and WR/RBs will usually be your horses - they score the most for you, and the K, TE and D for the most part you are just looking for some output every week.
One twist - the BYE weeks - each of your players has a bye week listed - that means the team they play for does not play in that week - so make sure you don't set up your roster with guys on a bye.
You can trade players amongst other teams, or you can pick up players off of the "waiver wire" - which simply means the pool of players that are in the league that are not on any one of our teams in this league.
For instance - say you are coming up to week 9, and your kicker is on a bye that week - you don't have another kicker, so you have to shop the waiver wire and pick up a kicker. You can drop a bum off of your bench (by week 9 you will know who the bums are) OR you can drop your current kicker and pick up one that is not on a bye that week.
Since this league has no transaction fees, you can trade as much as you want to off of the waiver wire (as far as I know in the standard free ESPN league that is...)
Finally - watch at the beginning of the season - there are usually some Thursday night games - and if you have a player that is playing on thursday, and you wait until friday to put him on your roster - guess what??? No points for him.
Players will be locked at the start of the game - so to be safe, set your roster for each position at least 15 minutes prior to game time for each individual position. That is to say, if you have a guy playing on thursday, one on Sat and one on Sun, you can wait until Sun to set the fellow that plays on Sun, but you'll need to set the Thursday player on Thursday.
Have fun - go read up on your players - check out the ones that are hurt - see if they will play - have fun.
Enjoy - and best regards -
