That is the "as forged" finish that Stomper will do upon request.

It might need a little oil rubbed onto it.

Is it possible to get close ups of this? and how safe would it be to use for food prep ?

I put some more pictures up that were taken only moments ago. It's not rust it's just the coloring in the forge scale but I have used it a couple times for light food prep and it never left any residue on anything so I would say its safe for food prep
