I finally got a chance to get both the JK passaround knife and my camera outside together.
The JK passaround knife (I believe that it is the Bushcrafter model) arrived to me with high flat grind and a polished convex edge. In all of this review, keep in mind that the knife has been used and sharpened by several people before reaching me.
The handle is tulip wood with red liners. The fit and finish is very good. The only nit that I would pick is that the 4mm of the sharpened blade closest to the handle are flat. This could be the effect of use or sharpening technique of previous users.
The handle has a small integrated guard and a slight palm swell as well as a depression in front of the palm swell.
I found the handle shape to be great for a 4-finger grip, a grip with the forefinger on the top of the blade or in a pinch grip. I found the depression not as comfortable for a backhand grip. In all the handle shape really worked for me since I don't use a backhand grip very often or for extended periods of time.
The blade is 4.25 inches long with a sharpened edge of 4 inches. The handle is 4 3/16 inches long.
Here is the passaround knife next to a JK compact drop point.
The knife was easy to baton.(Sorry, cell phone photo)
The JK passaround knife easily made long curls for a fuzz stick
It made a nice notch
and this knife has one of the best drilling points of any knife I have used.
The JK passaround knife came with a well constructed sheath. I would say more but I don't know enough about leather. This sheath was plenty thick and rides comfortably on my belt.
Overall, I really liked the shape of the handle on this knife and the blade performed admirably. I would be happy to have this as my only knife in the bush.
I am sorry to have to send it on to the next passaround participant.
