JK Supporters take note!! JK Knives Torture Test passaround!

I think it will make it all the way home, get cleaned up and the sent out to the next willing group of sadistic bastaches.

I could be wrong.

I was watching some of those destruction tests from the guy with the hockey mask - man, some of that stuff is downright cruel!

I guess we should say something about if you do roll the edge or otherwise mess up the cutting edge that you should do your best to repair the edge before sending the Victim on.....

I'll not be deliberately trying to destroy this tool. But I'm going to use it as my primary knife while I have it.

I am going to beat on it. I will baton some wood - we will probably do some of that at the Gathering.

I have a couple of other ideas muhahahahah!

All ranch work here, cleaning animals, feed sacks, stripping electrical wire, back end as a screwdriver. Normal red neck stuff. I am very interested in seeing how it holds up and how easy it is to sharpen. I am seriously sharpening challenged and will have no issue with which ever option is recommended. First I will try to sharpen it myself. Thus, the reason I wanted to be involved in a passaround of O1 steel. I am looking for that "dummy proof" blade that based on steel, geometry and design will allow even ME to keep a good working edge on it. If I fail to sharpen it myself then before I send it to the next person on the list I am willing to commit to one of two courses of action. 1. have a professional I know sharpen it up 2. Send $10 to the next person so they can buy a 6 pack while they are cussing me for being incompetent as they sharpen it themselves. I am also open to suggestions and never afraid of critcism.

Hi RWT -

No biggie - I think you can just send it on after giving the sharpening a try yourself - no worries!

My twisted little brain has come up with a couple of things to try. While these may be abuse, even gross abuse, I think that's the point.

Batoning: Batoning seems like a good test but big pieces of wood are harder on me than the knife at times. Instead of the traditional wood splitting I think I will try something else, maybe some pieces of conduit. The conduit may be harder to split so I may need a different baton, say a hammer perhaps? Once I have prepared my conduit kindling, I think some other blade vs. metal work may be in order. Maybe some wire, nails, screws, who knows...maybe even a bolt? I may even damage the hammer on the JK and that hammer may need to be destroyed so that no one mistakenly uses a damaged tool......JK vs. Hammer Head?

Carving: Why limit your carving to stupid old wood. Aren't there other materials that need some carving too? An old license plate or maybe some heavy plastic?

Food prep: Chicken bones are for babies, how about some whacking on one of those nasty cow knuckle bones?

Exteme conditions: Maybe a nice overnight nap in a block of ice?

Not sure what I might do but wanted to share. :)

Hi Sean -

You took one of my ideas already!

I agree, we should attempt to sharpen it up and pass it along to the next guy.

I was going to do that anyways!

Count me out of the pass around, but this one will do fine. I have used my jks fir some pretty absurd things with no problems. One of my favorite ways to freak out my friends is to split rounds by pounding my hiker hd through the end tip first, like a chisel. One friend said "that's pretty bold of you to do with your knife, I would expect it to break.

I would venture to say that the only way one of us could break this knife is to purposely try to break it and, even then, you might have a tough road to travel. I am curious what will happen to the edge if it is pounded through softer metal but I have total confidence that the knife will be intact.

That's a pretty clean cut thru that cutting board, you have good hand-eye coordination. My cuts would be all over the place.
I like how well John's heat treat is holding that edge.

Thanks John -

The knife will still slice paper.

My friend who was going to RC test the knife blew me off - never called back. I will talk to him tomorrow about that.
