JK Vermont Hunter #2 .... most likely another WIP

thanks Myke. that's what i am hemmin' and hawin' about. i really liked how that green burlap turned out on the knife i did for that other forum member. and, i found an old pair of brown cords this morning that were in my giveaway bag. and, i thought...hmmmm. i may make 'em up and see how they look.

BUT...i think on this particular knife, i want the more classic look of a nice wooden handle.
Funny you mention the corduroy, that wood sure looks like it could be corduroy micarta, pretty cool.
Got 'er done yet?:p

ok, ok...liners have been in-house. i figured it was about time to get started. just gluing things up. i tried something a bit different this time. i added a "pin stripe". interested to see how it looks (no pics of that yet).

forgot to post this one here last night. i am sitting here working, counting the minutes til i can go home and finish up this handle. it is kind of a "romantic" notion. i spend too much time looking at the wood, and matching the liners and pins up. i decided what i want...then, i re-decide...then i go through that process about half-a-dozen times. so, once it is actually gluing together, waiting for me to finish...well...get excited to see what i have. sand it, polish it, and look at the finished piece. i'm getting all tingly. and yes, i'mmm a dork.

We are most certainly dorks with you man! (Obviously, lol)

Now hurry up and finish so we can stop checking this thread obsessively....or am I the only one?? :D

Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Cant wait to see how it turns out!

Whats the blade length on that knife?
Here ya go Danny, taken from the 2013 model & pricing sticky.

"Vermont Hunter, designed by Todd Powell (TPVT) 8 3/4" overall, with a 4 1/4" blade, 1/8" thick $185.00"

I imagine it's cheaper without the handle installed by John though.;)

And BTW,that beauty in the sticky has a handle done by Todd also.Ain't it purdy?
Cant wait to see #2 done myself.

shucks guys, i don't know what to say. oh yeah i do....i'm done!

introducing the JK Vermont Hunter #2. cocobolo scales; coyote brown and black G10 liners; natural micarta and black CF pins (didn't want the lanyard hole so went with a black pin to "plug" it...didn't have to, but figured what the heck).

wish i could get you better than camera pics.

P.S. i bet the blade length is 4.5". I don't have it with me; otherwise, i'd measure it. i will add the specs another time.

P.P.S. John, thanks for the scales. they look great!

Dude.

Your work improves with every job I've seen. That is absolutely beautiful! It's amazing what nature can create, the grain pattern is stunning!!

Well done Todd. Love the liners and pinstripe btw.

Well that sure don't look like corduroy now!
Outstanding work there Todd.Beautiful melding of materials.

looks good Todd, thanks for sharing,

FYI I've been known to walk out to the work shed in bare feet...or I used to anyway

Yes, very nice job on that one. If it looks that good in the pics it must be a real stunner in person.

Beautiful, Todd - Beautiful!

best
