hey guys! Wife just ordered my first busse kin (yay) and its either a RMD or JMD, told her to suprise me. i know the RMD is a good size for edc but what about the JMD? would an extra 3/4" make a huge difference?
anyone edc a 6" blade lol?

In Texas the limit is 5.5inches so the RMD is literally as big as I can go.

The RMD is bigger then necessary for most tasks, but big enough to do things you couldn't with a smaller knife.
Perfect size for large EDC. IMO.

Buuuut. I ordered a JMD too and plan on at least taking it out once or twice.

You'll love either one whichever way it goes!
And don't let the wife get too involved with Trissy and the girls, before you know it she'll be the Hog!

Oh yeah, im sure after she handles a busse she'll be hiding them from me for herself lol. but i was just curious if it was possible with a 6" blade. i know it might seem a lil overkill but if anything the JMD looks to be an amazing camp knife. Either one i'll be ecstatic and plan on abusing the snot out of 'em.

The short answer to your question is no unless, like Lance, you're dealing with a legal issue re: blade length. But if I were going to buy one or the other and I hadn't bought either one yet, I'd buy the JMD for its scarcity value alone. Otherwise the JMD and the RMD are functionally equivalent knives. You won't go wrong with either one.

Exactly! Well she was more concerned about how often i would be carrying/using the JMD compared to the RMD. I know the RMD is more versatile than the other, im just afraid the JMD will be suited only for outdoor excursions. and bld522 kentucky is a pretty easy going state on knife laws but open carry would be my only option for the JMD. Ha, i just realized most states dont allow you to carry a knife that size, i probably wont get too many responses. I should be so lucky to live in such a knife friendly state lol.

That's my thinking too, but how often does the swamp put out limited run items? i tried emphasizing the rarity of it, i told her to get a RMD but i would freak if she went with a JMD with colored G10 handles *drool* :D

I love my two RMDs, but have often found myself wishing the blade were just that little bit longer. Not necessarily because I felt I was missing out on usable blade edge, but more from the perspective of looks and balance. Then I got my hands on a Rodent 6 and knew I had found the perfect blade length for me. So for me the JMD ticks just about every box. Then there's the limited run factor. Two years from now I reckon the JMD will be one of those knives that Hogs, Rats and Dogs everywhere wish they had been able to get in on.

Gah! I'd be happy with either as my first but now i REALLY want a JMD, fingers crossed i married a telepathic. lol.

Ugh i wish, my lips are chapped enough from all the butt kissing, she thought $200 was a lil steep for the JMD with G10, maybe its time to put on some blistex and keep kissin lol

I like your style ong. Doin' what a man's got to do. Good luck.

RMD will be probably available for a while yet. JMD is a limited run.
If she gets you JMD and you don't like it that much when it arrives, you can sell it on exchange and get RMD...

yeah this is true. thanks guys for all your input. if im getting a RMD i'll carry the crap out of it but if not then i'll be happy taking the JMD anywhere cops wont be called lol. but here's the thing that gets me, what part of the satin jack was carried over to the JMD? blade shape isnt a jack, neither is the handle shape, so really its just a longer Ratmandu? was comparing pics and stats and seems its mostly the latter. anyone else notice this?

What I don't like about JMD is it's 1.25" blade width. IMO it's too narrow for it's blade length and with busse's typical factory edge, it will not cut for shaayt. Go with the RMD or a modified Rodent 6.

Yep, again thats my thinkin as well. Even if i missed out on a JMD i've read you can chop the top guard off a rodent 6 and have the same exact thing. I plan on using the stock saber grind until my OCD kicks in and has me convex it, but the 1.25" could really be a factor?

I'd say the SJ part is the longer, fairly narrow, drop point blade.

Beefmandu proved to be quite capable blade even with the thick spine and hollow grind. JMD should be a good all rounder, decent slicer, not sure about chopping as it looks to have neutral balance.

We'll see. Whichever one im gettin i plan on hunting and fishing with it so i hope it'll be up to field dressing and such. If i wanted a chopper i'd just get a small hatchet. Me personally i have big hands so chopping ability aside i love how a big knife can fill your hand. Anybody have a pic of a Satin Jack for reference?

Here's some eye candy for your thread :)

I ordered a RMD about 6-7 weeks ago, but then bought the above LE and Rodent Trail off the exchange (as well as a few others, lol, I'm a lush). Just ordered a JMD too for good measure. Not sure how it will turn out, but thought I'd mention I requested both of my knives from the shop to have the edge thinned out. Might be worth a shot if that's important to you. The Web site has a message feature that I used, as well as the comment box for initial orders.

Also, Kentucky rocks. (NKY native.)
