Using his forging skills and superior heat-treating methods, Joe Calton transformed an old leaf spring into this chopper. It is over 18" long with a 13" blade and 11.5" of cutting edge. It is flat ground with a razor sharp secondary flat beveled edge that can both handle finer work and survive a serious thrashing. The combination of forward balance (1.5" up from the top of the handle) and the subtle recurve that maximizes blade curvature near the tip makes this a very efficient cutting tool.
I've beaten on this thing a few times while doing some summer clean-up and it has some modest surface scratches and very light patina in a few spots. Otherwise it is just as sharp as the day I got it.
The handles are leather overlaid with two layers of hemp cord - a main layer of brown and a layer of black for the palm swells. The cord is epoxy-soaked for resilience and ease of cleaning. It is extremely comfortable and provides uncompromising traction even when wet.
The sheath is heavy brown leather with a large belt loop and drain hole, and is in perfect shape.
SOLD. Thanks!
