Joe was a great guy.
After the first time I saw Exposure (around 1993), I called Joe up and ordered 4 of the subhilt version.
Personally, I couldn't warm up to the scandi grind or pure dagger profile on a subhilt, but we sold the heck out of those knives, 8 of them over a year.
Then, shortly thereafter, Joe stopped grinding fixed blades because of all the crap that winds up in the shop, even with good vacuum equipment and respirators.
He made fine folders after that, on par with Steve Hoel, Warren Osborne and Tom Overyender. Some of the finest interframes available.
Joe was a gentleman, humble and softspoken, with a great sense of humor.
Glad I got the chance to know him for some 20 years, catch up at the shows and check out what he was working on.
RIP Joe Kious, the world was better having you in it.
Best Regards,
STeven Garsson
