Joe Kious subhilt fighter, "Exposure" movie knife, and Joe's last fixed blade.
First off, let me say that had my state retirement system not changed all the rules, I would've never offered this up for sale. However, reality is what it is and my retirement plans have changed considerably so I have to divest myself of some toys.
A bit of background... If you have seen the movie "Exposure", you know that this is the knife made famous by the quote "Joe Kious, very rare...". Here is a link to the YouTube video and you can see where this particular knife is shown, along with several other well-known blades.

There are a few things that make this particular knife special...
First off, Joe no longer builds fixed blade knives. He graciously consented to build this one for me in March of 2012. I had actually ordered one of these knives back in 1992, but I was forced to cancel the order after I lost my job. Amazingly, Joe remembered speaking to me at that time and I was grateful for his consenting to build this knife for me.
Second, Joe picked out some exceptional pieces of cocobolo just for this knife and I think you will appreciate just how beautiful the color and figure is. For whatever reason, my photos came out a bit light, and the scales are actually a bit darker than the photos, but the figure is obvious.
Last and most important, I have a handwritten letter from Joe, written on his personal stationery where he says that the last two of these particular model knives were made more than 10 years ago. At the bottom of the letter he says "PS, I doubt I will ever make another one of these." Joe also sent me several color photographs of him, standing in front of his shop, holding this exact knife in his hands, and they will be included with the sale.
So, there you have it. I consider this to be a piece of custom knife making history from one of the crafts most meticulous knifemakers.
Joe had Paul Long make one of his beautiful leather sheaths. You can see it pictured here.
SOLD
Specifications: Overall length is 11 inches, blade length from the front of the guard to the tip of the blade is 6 3/8 inches, the width of the blade is 1 inch and the length of the handle to the front of the guard is 4 5/8 inches.
