I have for sale, a beautiful Joe Walters shobu zukuri with a nice gentle suguha style hamon, with some nie / nuoi. The signed mei shows that it was forged in 2001.

The blade is around 11.5" nagasa, with a dramatic sori of about 0.3".

The habaki is hand-forged textured copper with gold stippling.

Comes with Joe's original unique tree-bark koshirae, and a very special dense & heavy york gum burl (an Australian hardwood) koshirae I commissioned from an Australian maker. Has polished buffalo horn fittings. The chatouyance of the york gum burl is just plain amazing, especially with the very well done piano lacquer style finish. It's a piece of art by itself.

The tree bark koshirae fits very well after I tightened the fit, the york gum burl koshirae is a little tight (to compensate for plenty of future sheathing and unsheathing) - you can easily sandpaper the koiguchi a bit more if you want it looser.

Finally, this worthy blade was given a full traditional Japanese polish by Brandon Thell.....it is just amazing.

Here are some pics from Brandon, the original pic from Joe's website, and an amateur pic by me of both the blade and the koshirae.

This has been a long and costly (for me :) ) project but this one belongs to someone who can afford to keep it. I need the cash for Christmas bills.

The price reflects what I have in it plus a little Christmas kindness :) . You will be very happy with this tanto.

$XXXSOLDXXX, includes express shipping (5 days), 3.5% paypal fees, both koshirae and the magic of Brandon's fantastic polish.

I will accept a mint Viper 4 (MV-4) with thick liners and zero grind (must be scary sharp) and $650 cash top up via paypal for this.

Please email me at jameskoji@gmail.com if interested.

I owned this piece when it was in Joe's original polish. Although Joe does a good polish, I can say that when I first opened this thread I looked at the pictures before reading. I then had to read to see if it had been polished again and sure enough it was polished by one of the best, Brandon Thell. The polish looks amazing on this now, spyken.

The habaki is also very original and very characteristic of Joe's work. Good luck with the sale... I would buy it back in the state you have brought it up to in a heartbeat but cannot.

thanks for the kind words Eric. this is really quite beautiful. the suguha hamon really fits the sori of the blade, very gentle yet very powerful. Brandon's traditional polish indeed is several notches above a few of the other polishers I've experienced.

I'm dropping the price to SOLD all in for a quick sale.

Or trade a Viper MV-4 and $600 cash.

I would like to sell by this weekend, so here's a special price.

$1800 shipped, paypal fee included.

Or trade for a Viper 4 + $600 cash.

btw, just as a side ditty, full dress polishing by togishis like Brandon are about $60 per inch, and most togishis have a waiting time of 12-15months, at the very earliest. save yourself some time and $$ and get this one for your Christmas stocking! :D

I need to move this quickly and the new price of $SOLD shipped, paypal fee included reflects this!

ok, this is really as low as it gets.....it's really crazy but I need to move it fast to pay for my mounting bills....

you won't get this price for a full traditional japanese polish job tanto, and TWO koshirae.

$SOLD all in.
