After a recent thread here about the failure of an sr1 lite, which is nonsense, his latest video grossly abuses an AD10, and towards the end he hammers it into a piece of wood, pulls on it beaks the tip .Hammers it again, pulls up on it,blade snaps. After that he doesnt recommend it because the tip broke too easily. Its morons like this that will scare away novices from a good knife because they think it will break too easily. Thats why i hate these videos. It gives a good knife a bad name.

I could break any knife if I wanted to. Maybe I should upload some videos too 🤔.

Amazing what some people will do to get viewers(get money). If OP base their decisions on one video(when there are some many more out there)I don't feel sorry for them at all. I was taught to reseach about everything I buy. It is tough nowadays with so much misinformation out there, but it can be done. I quit looking at Amazon Reviews for a while until I found out how to sift through it, and I am no genius! GSM should reintroduce those awesome Demko/Thompson tests made so long ago, but obviously they are not worried about it, so neither am I(OK mostly not lol). Good point though!

I take your point, but I don't mind his channel. If a person is so inexperienced that they can't see his testing for what it is, it just means there are a few things they need to learn about knives and tools in general. I think it is pretty clear that what he does is gross abuse so one takes it for what it's worth. CS does tend to put fine tips on its knives, so being able to snap some is no surprise.

I don't see these as any different than Cold Steel's own videos to be honest. Both go above normal use to see what it takes to break the knife.

I think that, beyond the politically incorrect appearance, the CS tests followed certain standards and had certain objectives and in several cases they even carried out objective measurements and comparisons. This guy, on the other hand, doesn't know what he is doing or what he is actually testing. He just persists until he breaks the piece and that's it.

Yeah, those vids are idiotic. Anything will break if you try long enough and subject the item to over-the-top abuse….but look at it this way, the CS knives (despite the wacko torture tests) still held up very well before being destroyed. I seriously doubt there are that many knife brands that can hold up like a CS can under the same circumstances. I was actually impressed with the SR1 Lite when I saw how many time he hit the spine before it folded. I was tempted to order one but trying to control myself and not go over my budget since I’m still lusting over an American Lawman and the Recon 1 Spearpoint:)

I almost made this same exact thread after seeing certain members here continually post "So and so Cold Steel fails" videos, offering them up as if they were actually proof of something, along with a bunch of conjecture they cooked up regarding Cold Steel's SK5 steel.

The part they failed to mention was that idiot's channel BREAKS EVERY SINGLE KNIFE THEY TEST, regardless of brand. Any knife will fail if you beat on it long and hard enough. The testing that guy does is far beyond what Cold Steel's proof videos do. The guy goes to extreme measures in order to purposely break the knife. Then once it breaks, we get to have members come into the Cold Steel threads, post the videos of the failed knife, then spew conjecture and nonsensical opinions about the failure.
Funny you don't see the videos being shared of other brands failing, only the Cold Steel one's seemed to be shared around here. Go figure.

As I stated in a previous thread on the subject, I think the guys a moron. But sadly, the internet celebrates morons and turns them into celebrities, sometimes wealthy celebrities. This world is a strange and confounding place sometimes.

On the bright side, if there are other morons out there that are stupid enough to believe the guy when he breaks a knife and declares it to be crap, and they refuse to buy those knives, that means more knives available for smart people to buy.

As far as the Lynn Thompson/Cold Steel Proof videos, although I think that some of the "activities" are laughable, their videos do contain actual valuable information regarding things like lock-strength. Like for example- I know from a few of their Ti-Lite 6 videos that the liner lock on a Ti-Lite 6 can withstand between 135 and 150 pounds of pressure.

As much as I love folding stilettos I resisted purchasing a Ti-Lite because I was only into the "traditional" Italian-style stilettos. But it was a Proof video of a Ti-Lite that someone had posted on Bladeforums that convinced me to finally buy one. I was thoroughly impressed by what I saw in that video, and as a direct result of that video the Ti-Lite 6 became not only my all-time favorite stiletto, but also my all-time favorite knife. Today some of my customized Ti-Lite 6's are among my most prized possessions. And I could say that I owe it all to that Proof video. Thank you Lynn Thompson and Phil Boguszewski.

A very big difference between the Cold Steel Proof videos, and that horses-ass Joe X, is that Lynn Thompson wanted to show how strong his knives were, whereas Joe X is clearly interested only in destroying a knife, by any means possible, so that he can then declare it to be a piece of crap.

Any test has to have limits. If Ford advertises the F-150 as the toughest truck in the world, and I ram one into an oak tree at 100 mph, completely destroying the truck, and then ask Ford for a refund because their truck wasn't tough enough to withstand a head on collision, what did I prove?

A valid test or review must have standards and a stated goal. In the knife world the questions should be: what is the knive's purpose, and how well does it accomplish this goal. Saying that a Cold Steel Wild West Bowie fails as a knife because it sucks for pocket carry is absurd, and so is expecting a folder to split logs or chisel concrete. It doesn't say anything about the tool, but it certainly says something about the tester.

Toughest truck in the world? I've owned Ford trucks for the past 20 years, and my 2015 F-150 four door (which I purchased new) has doors that won't latch shut when the temperature drops below freezing, and Ford can't/won't fix them. They have been making vehicles since 1903, you'd think that they would have the door latches sorted out by now!

Buy Toyota lol. They're the equivalent of a 1/4 inch knife. Not the best for anything, but damn hard to break.

Trigger warning! ☺️

My take; Joe X is 90% entertainment but also I’ll give him 10% actual value. When I say entertainment I mean in a masochist way, it hurts to watch his videos 🤣

The value? Well, a knife experiencing unexpected brittle failure when striking a hard object, or the opposite, a knife taking a ton of abuse, there is information to be extracted from that I believe. Maybe it could be the tie break between two knives you can’t decide on, at least for some applications like survival knives.

Please don’t ban me from BF, I love this place 😉
Peace /D

I think it is interesting to compare Joe X's video on the Luzon to other Cold Steel knives. It really shows how bad the Luzon is comparatively.
