The economy is in ruins. The country's sliding into the nether regions and as long as the end is near, I'm at least gonna try going down with the ship with a smile on my face. ;)

This was one of those "impulse" orders that was justified simply because I really liked the pattern and next month's my birthday and and what the hell, I'll have some of the nicer knives on the bread line when it forms up. (I hope I'm only kidding about that.)

This one was recently completed by Joel Chamblin and I got a nice deal on it after chatting with Dan Delavan of Plaza Cutlery.

It's about 3.5" closed (I'm told by Joel) with some nice stag and CPM-154 blades at about Rc 60. Dan listed the weight at about 2.75 ounces.

Anyway, it won't be here for a bit but wanted to share some images.
(I cropped them to about the size of the knife to get a sense of perspective.)

Comments welcome.

That's a looker for sure. I love fluted bolsters.

Now what kind of comments could anyone make about that knife:

1. It is simply beautiful.

2. Joel Chamblin makes a very fine knife. A top slipjoint maker, and a nice human being as well.

3. You couldn't get a nicer birthday present for yourself.

4. Did I mention that it is a beautiful knife?

Congratulations, Elliot.

Congrats Elliott, that stag, the swedges, the very useful lookin' sheepsfoot...

Thanks! I agree that Joel's one of the handful of elite maker's at the top of the game and is a great guy to boot.

I have long admired his work and always enjoy chatting with him both at shows or on the phone and am constantly astounded at how modest and unassuming he is.

By the way, I failed to mention that the knife has half stops on the two secondary blades (only).

So your the one that snagged it.... Funny, I was just looking at Plazas website.
Very nice Elliott. Thats a beauty and will make a great b-day present.

If we do all end up in the bread line, you'll be doing it in style :D

Howdy Elliott,

That knife couldn't go to a nicer fellow.

Will the traditional forum have some sort of celebration or special event the day of your birthday? How about we alll carry a Texas jack that day? Seeing as I don't have one but I do live in Texas, does any jack count as a Texas jack in my situation?

Thanks, guys.

Nah, no celebration called for on my part though in honor of Texas and the recent travail experienced in the wake of the storms, I think carrying a Texas Jack (or any of your newly acquired fine looking jacks ;)) would be a nice gesture.

What a beauty. That is one of those knives that every time you pull it out of your pocket you wind up fondling and admiring it for several minutes before you get around to cutting anything. The kind of knife folksy folk like.

I have nothing to add especially to what Shaldag posted. Joel is one of my favorite makers.

Nice Birthday present Elliott,it is gorgeous.I like the fluted bolsters & pen blade (rather a spey) special touches

The last stockman I picked up from Plaza Cutlery was the Rusty Preston I was fortunate to find and shared here shortly after the Blade Show. That one was 3 5/8" and a little tank of a knife. Rusty shortly thereafter sent me a 4" version.

With this knife I was looking for a smaller version (like my 3.5" Ruple stockman) to complement the larger sowbelly by Reese Bose (3 7/8").

This will give me five stock patterns ranging in size from 3.5" to 4", both premium and sowbelly patterns by top makers such as Ruple, Chamblin, Preston and Bose (in no particular order).

Nicely textured and fitted stag, well proportioned knife! Pretty bolsters, not overdone!
Great looking knife, Elliott!!
Happy pre-birthday to you, happy pre-birthday to you, happy PRE-BIRTHDAY dear ELLLEEE-UTTT!!! Happy pre-birthday to you!!:D

Wow, what a looker! I love the shape of the main blade, the design of the nick and swedge is perfect. The pen blade looks perfect for whittling. Just the right amount of belly--that very slight arc all the way across.

That's quite a lineup of knives you have Elliott. The sow is a great addition. You've treated yourself well for your birthday.

Elliott,

Very nice, clean looking sowbelly! Hope to find out more details after you receive it.

Thank, Mike. Well, you know how it is, you just never know how much time you have and what the heck, if we're gonna be on that dang bread line, well I want something to take my mind off it. ;)

I gotta couple other things in the works (I hope) if the chips fall my way.

I guess it's like Culpepper says...Live life like you stole it.

Ken, I love you like a brother but I'm not sending it to you to take apart! ;):p

Beauty, but I'm slightly partial to Joel's work. :D

Excellent snag, Blues ! ;)

Nice addition to your fine collection Elliott....and I'm sure one of those sowbelly blades will spread butter just fine in the breadline. :D
