I am interested in purchasing a jeep Wrangler, and I remember seeing a pic once of you and your jeep with a rack with a canoe on it. I tried to find it , but no luck. Do you know the picture I'm talking about?

I have a 16' canoe, and want to carry it on a jeep top. I think a roof rack is a great idea, and useful in other ways as well.

Thanks.

head on over to jeepforum.com there you'll find a wealth of knowladge. They have a picture request forum. I'm sure you can find one there.

Quadatec(check the spelling) has jeep racks that mount directly to the body of the jeep. I ordered one last year and used my Thule bars with it to carry my kayaks. Very reasonable prices as well.

Joe's looks looks like it attaches to the rain gutter. He is using it in conjunction with the Cherokee rack. The Wrangler would have it's own style of rack depending on whether it is a hard top or soft top. You could make a rack to attache to your front bumper and a receiver mounted one in the back and protect you top.
I currently have 2 CJ7, a CJ5, an M38A1 and a CJ2A.

What vintage are you looking for?

Here's my girl:

I've been researching racks, and in my opinion, the absolute best rack is from Gobi:

the jeep rack i had on the wrangler (RIP) is a wilderness systems rack. I am bolitng it onto the new cherokee, and it is a good design. I have other recommendations though if you are just getting it for your canaoe though. crazy foreign keyboard!!!! ççlll laksdlsa I´ll help when i get back if y0u haven´t found the answer on jeep forums.

Nice JK Wulfshrunting! Looks like you have a mild lift on that by the looks of those tires. Hoping this coming summer to get a mild one for mine.

Thanks. She has a Rough Country 2.5" coil lift, JKS track bars and sway bar disconnects and 33" tires. With the front sway bar disconnected, the little suspension setup has pretty good articulation.

The JK's an awesome 4x4 vehicle out of the box, even with the stock street tires it can do a whole lot.

Thanks fellas. Something like the one that's on the JK, without the raised front part would be perfect ( and a wee bit longer , too). If I'm not hauling the canoe, I want to put bins on top as well.

I'll see what Joe says when he gets back. I haven't sprung for the jeep yet , so I'm still checking my options with the roof rack, as I want to be able to carry my canoe securely.
It's not that heavy (70 lbs. ? ), but it is large with a 42" beam. and 16' long.

The rack on my TJ is called a Cargo Master, if memory serves. It's rated for upwards of 500lb(eventhough I doubt I'd actually put that much weight up there-ever). That being said, I've carried three 17ft kayaks on the roof at once and the total weight would've been around 200lb based on each boat weighing in the mid-60lb range. It's loud with the top down, but Jeeps are pretty loud anyways, right? Mine is mounted using existing holes and is bolted on the windshield while hinges are on the back to allow taking the roof on and off.

I've got a 1965 CJ-5A. I used to get all kinds of stuff in mail for it, years ago.
Pick up a jeep magazine and look at all the choices of racks for it.
Or there's this thing called "google" you can try out.
By getting the one that bolts onto back and front of body, you can use soft or hard tops.

Yup it is. I got an 08 Unlimited. I've always liked Jeeps, but for some reason I would buy trucks instead. When my son was born I needed more room so I finally got me a Jeep. I'll never switch to anything else now. Sorry for going off topic. It's a Jeep thing.
