Looks like some nice craftsmanship.

Does anyone have any pictures of an original 'hawk (at least a couple hundred years old?) that was constructed like this? Would love to see 'em.

John C. - yes, I am very much enjoying it - it's one of the few pieces I have on display at home and really looks fantastic on my desk. I think if I start opening mail with the thing, my wife will REALLY start to look at me funny.

I love a good pit story and that was a good one. And that fine hawk is a good way to remember the event .
