John Davis aka Jdavis882 aka Crimsontideshooter aka DavisBladeWorks.

Judging by his instagram account and some conversations I have had with some people on youtube, John Davis had a number of orders for knives that he has failed to deliver on and has generally made himself unavailable to contact about the issue.

I know there is a fair bit of drama surrounding him, but I felt that this was an issue the wider knife community needed to know about.

Sad to see this.

I hate youtube reviewers, but John always seemed very honest about his reviews, and his opinions seemed well grounded with about as little BS as you can find on the 'tube'.....
He seemed very genuine.

I kinda lost interest in him when he became a 'knife maker'
I am not sure the world needed another reviewer or pimper to turn custom knife maker...

Always thought it was a little suspect that the guy would flaunt buying 4 models of the same $250 knife whenever it came out and claiming to have owned over 20 Sebenzas while being enrolled in an expensive university, the brand new truck and house he bought right out of college, and other things plus quitting his job 6 months out of college to start making knives. Either someone else is footing the bill, or he's in debt up to his eyes probably including student loans. I thought he was a spoiled frat boy by his look and attitude (we share the same alma mater) and money he had tied up in knives until I heard his story about he was raised by his unwealthy grandparents or something unless that's false.

I want to believe he's a good dude, but the arrogance and tone often displayed led me to believe otherwise. I also thought the whole ordeal with CRK and what went down at Blade (allegedly) and then talking about the encounter in a video was in really poor taste. I personally would've never wanted one of his blades, but I hate seeing someone who has a vision of pursuing their supposed dream turn into a fraud like this. There are probably many that have been hoping to see him fail. Here's hoping he turns it around soon though the damage may already be done.

I just went to his 'Davis Blade Works' channel, and the last handful of videos are all about flying really expensive R/C helicopters?!

The comments section in the last vid was filled with people asking if he was still making knives, and no answer to anyone on that.
He did go out of his way to mention how expensive an initial investment his helicopter was though....

Strange.

Wow, thars oretty Sad. I like other, enjoyed Johns knife videos, like Jr88fan said, out of the many knife "reviewers" he seemed like the lest one full of it and I like his reviews and knife tests. I didn't take them as gospel though, just because your knife dies an x amount of cuts, doesn't mean mine will, especially in the production world with varying heat treats, hardnessm sharpenings and othe variables but I saw the as a data point in out pursuit to understand knives better. I was gkad that he followed his "dream" if making knives and his first few seemed pretty good but then he just disappeared and I've been wondering about what happened and I guess we know. I really hope this gets resolved and the guys who fronted him money will either get it back or get theur knives or something of value in return. Sad to hear about another YouTube guy's fall from grace but it happens as we all know.

Well, the heads up has been given, but this is getting ridiculous. I'm not going to let this turn into a gossip forum. If the people actually involved want to speak up, they are more than welcome to do so. Thanks go to the OP for bringing this up.

Now, it's no one's business how or why someone buys what they buy but their own. If the guy owns 2 or 20 of every knife that is none of our concern. If he has a new truck, well then good for him. If he was in college, that is great too. If he bought a house with a white picket fence and has a couple dogs and a wife, then even better. Again, none of our friggin business. Looks like Instagram has a new star for the spotlight. One thing I will say on this subject is that this person has been laced with controversy for a long time with many knife companies.

People should be aware of how to conduct business properly and do some research (there is that damned word again), and make sure things are on the up and up. One red flag was a while back he allegedly solicited donations for something through his YT channel.
