I've bought a lot of stuff on the "for sale by maker" forums, but a recent deal with John Etzler (Jetzler1) was over the top.
I was on the market for an M4 steel fixed blade, and found this one:

Sold on the quality of the knife (and the aesthetics, obviously, just look at those scales!), I asked if he would be interested in making a pocket carry sheath for it. He gave me a price quote and asked for a pic of an example. We agreed to a deal, and less than a week later, this is what he'd come up with...

I just received the knife today, a little over a week after buying it (including a federal holiday). It came in a padded, zippered case with a typed note regarding how the sheath was made expressly for my pocket-carry purposes. A cautionary note was also included, as the knife is insanely pointy and sharp, and stupid behavior could either ruin the sheath or puncture an artery.
So in all, this was probably the best transaction I've had on this site. John is the Ritz Carlton of knife makers. If you see something from him that you like, just know that it will be much better than you can imagine once you see it in person, and he makes the transaction not only painless, but an absolute pleasure.
