Pappy that is an awesome give away. And an ever better way to do it then i have seen yet. Nothing is better then helping out others. Seeing as someone has to be the first to post I'll give it a go. I am a college student. Nothing too special here. And as I was in class I heard two girls talking. They were saying how they didnt understand what we had learned, and the test was in two days. There is a tutor, but it costs money. So I offered to tutor them for free, and if you knew me then you'd know I am the shiest person ever. I hate talking to people I don't know. Then today I recently got a new job. I found out that there was one more open position. I know a guy and girl who recently lost their jobs. I went and got them applications and I'm putting in a good word for them since I know the hiring manager. Not alot like others out there, but I do what I think is right. What goes around comes around right? Thanks for this chance Pappy, and God Bless everyone here for what they do and will be doing.

Great Giveaway Pappy:cool:
And it just worked in perfect time.. I put the snowblower in the back of the truck this morning & took it down the road a couple of miles to the neighbors, an older couple, and ran the blower on their drive. Afterwards had a nice cup of hot coco & a visit. :D
Was a good morning & felt good!

I was at the gas station in line for gas. A guy was pulling out from the other side and asked me to pull up. I pulled up out of the way and as he drove past me he clipped my rear tail light lens with his mirror. He knew what he did because his mirror folded in. I got out of my truck and he took off. I got his plate number and went to the police to report a hit and run. The police got ahold of him and he came in to make a statement. keep in mind that if he had gotten out of his truck and appologized, I would have let it go. Anyways, he admitted to the police that he was at fault, was apollogetic, and offered to pay for the damage. Come to find out, he was a kid, and he was just sworn into the military, and the cop said he seemed like a decent kid. I told the officer I was going to let it go.I can afford the repair, maybe he can't. Lesson learned, maybe he'll think twice and not take off on an accident.
I also have some envelopes coming for the American Cancer Society to mail out to people on my street to give for a good cause.

Was going thru some old knives of mine, just this afternoon, found a knife dedicated to Bear Bryant for his all time win record. Knife was made right after his last one as a coach. I am an Auburn fan, but my Sunday School teacher is a Bama Fan, I cleaned up the knife, oiled it and dropped it in a Bills pouch, come next Wed. The knife will join his other items in his fan room, Yes, he has a WHOLE room pertaining to football and the School. Don't know if that is nice enough, but you would have to understand the rivalry that goes on between the two schools and their grads.;)

Thanks for the contest, Great gesture Pappy,
Jim

Last post reminded me of something, I cook breakfast every morning for my wife of 45 years, her health is poor and she can not stand for long periods. So as my way of showing her I love her, I fix the breakfast.

I will pray for my enemies tonight and strive to find some forgiveness in my heart for those who have done me wrong.

Thanks to Pappy for reminding me to look outwards and think of others.

Well...besides being an all around nice guy I have been cooking dinner for my Dad 3-4 times a week and taking it over to his house. Nice to have company at the dinner table. Gave away a knife earlier this month too...lol. And I petted my Dad's dog and scratched behind his ears tonight...oh yea...I always buy Girl Scout Cookies!

I'm really big into fragrances lately, so I decided to share some of the love with my family members. I picked out fragrances that I knew my mom, dad, and brothers would love and got a chance to say thanks for all they have done for me.

Thanks for the contest it's a great idea. I'll be sure to get more random acts of kindness in! It's really a great feeling!

Gorgeous knife, I would be honored to carry it.
Last weekend at the local mall the scouts were selling some candies for a found raiser and I approached the scoutmaster to see if he would be interested in some extra Victorinox saks that I have laying around. Next week I will be donating 5 new knives for badge fulfillment.
Thanks pappy for the opportunity.

Pappy,

Great idea for a giveaway--promote service and kindness--and great knife to do it with! I love John's shields!

You asked for something we wouldn't do otherwise: here is my story. A woman in my church is in her mid-50s and retarded. She's a sweet lady, mostly shut-in except for church, but really needs a lot of attention over the phone. She spends most of the day on the phone with people. It's her way of reaching out for social contact and in her own way she is actively meeting her needs. On the other hand, it's kind of tough to make time for, because it's a minimum of half an hour when you pick up--she has the gift of gab. Besides everything else in life, I'm a very active dad of 4 children, all of whom live at home. I talk with her once a week, that's my limit, no more. After that once it goes to voice mail and I return her call the next week. It lifts her spirits when we talk, but that once is what I have time for.

Because of your post, I gave her a second call this week, which was really a shot in the arm for her. She's delightful, just a bit demanding of time once that call begins. But because of you I did it, I doubled my service to her. ;)

I have an older neighbor, she's in her late 80s, anyway her husband died 2 years ago and other than wave hello when we pass as she walks down her driveway everyday to get her newspaper, (I see her whe she crosses the bridge over the creek runnin' through our yards).

Today I walked out to her and we had a nice conversation by the street about her family and mine, we talked about her husband and how he was always busy when he was alive.

We spoke for about 20 minutes and as we said goodbye I noticed that she looked like she was cryin', I asked if she was alright and she said she was fine and it was just nice to have a friendly conversation that didn't involve death,, dyin' or illness that was all.

I told her we'd talk again, she smiled and waved as she walked away.

Well, I am not comfortable talking about "good deeds", but I REALLY like that knife <grin>.

I volunteer to cook and fellowship with homeless families. My church converts some classrooms into bedrooms for the families, and we use the old fellowship hall kitchen to feed them. Homeless shelters do not allow couples with their children, so by doing this, they can stay together as a family group. After a week, the family goes to another church. We do this a couple times a year, and I get my kids involved so they can understand how blessed we are, and the need to help others less fortunate. These folks are just regular people, hard working people that have fallen on tough times. It can happen to any of us.

Dog knocked down the neigbors trash can this week so me and one of my sons picked up the mess for her. She probably does'nt even know we cleaned it up. Thanks for the chance and for reminding us to think of others. Its easy to forget nowadays.

Thanks for the opportunity. My wife and I were blessed with a little "extra" money at Christmas time and decided to give it to a couple at church who are trying to adopt a little boy. Her employment wasn't looking good/ cooperating and his had been a little sporatic with this economy. Hopefully soon they'll welcome this little guy to their home!--Matt

I am a member of The Society of St Vincent DePaul. We help the needy in the town I live in and surrounding areas. There is no greater satisfaction than to give to someone that might need help with a light bill or with the rent. God bless all of you on this thread who help their fellow man. Thank you for your generosity.

That is one sweet looking knife! Thanks for a chance to own it.
I agree that times like these make you thankful for the little things, and what may be a little something to you might make all the difference to you neighbor.
The other day I changed a tire for a lady with 2 kids in a convenience store parking lot in a less than desirable neighborhood in Decatur GA. Normally I would get in the car and keep going, but I couldn't.

Its amazing how easy doing good deeds is when we are reminded. They are around every turn and every corner. today in church my pastor spoke on "judging" And how its not our job to judge one another. He first spoke of luke chapter 6 verse 41- And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 42 Or how can you say to your brother, " brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye then you will see clearly to take the speck from your brothers eye.
and romans chapter 2 verse 1-Therefore you are without excuse every man who passes judgement, for in that you judge another and condem yourself.

Wasnt trying to do a whole lot of preaching or anything or bore anyone, but Im gonna work really, really hard on not judging anyone. regardless of there faults its not my place to judge until my life is absoultly perfect, which means I will never be fit to judge anyone, as none of us are perfect or ever will be. Try it, its harder than you would imagine to judge no one.

Thanks a ton for the contest great knife and very generous. - Joel
