John Howser: Slimline Trapper

I don't think there is a single thing, that could have been changed to make that knife any better.

There are few knives that I really like enough, to keep going back and looking at them over and over.

I'm sure you know what the first one is :D Its your red bone Stockman made by a guy whose last name starts with an R, and ends with uple :D

Your new Howser knife, has the same effect on me. The bone is incredible. The pattern, scales, shield, blade shape and excellent steel choice, all make for one very fine knife...

Merry early Christmas... Enjoy

But I have to cry 'foul'! Didn't you just post an awesome Pena that was for Christmas????
Somebody must have been very good this year!!

I think Elliott has a wooden knife case he puts under the tree after Halloween each year, and expects it to be full of knives by Christmas morning! :p :D

Man, I love that trapper! John came through with flying colors! The vintage bone is awesome. The slimline is one of my favorite folder patterns. Congrats and Merry Christmas Elliott.

Awesome work all the way around especially the bone and blade work. That swedging is jaw dropping.

Congrats my brother.

John's a great guy and makes a pretty darn good knife too. Congrats on the new "family member". ;)

Very, very nice Elliott! I have been oggling Mr. Howser's work for some time now and am determined to own one someday. :)

Thanks for all the great feedback and Happy Holidays to you all!!!.

It's funny, when I went down into my little workshop last night to touch up the blade and then oil the joint and scales, as an afterthought I decided that I'd try to take a few images of the knife.

The shop has fluorescent lighting above and then I have an incandescent lamp on my bench. I figured there was no way the images would come out in an any acceptable fashion.

All this is meant to convey how (pleasantly) surprised I am by the reaction to the images as I thought they wouldn't get much response.

Truth is, the knife is a lot nicer looking than those paltry images and I'll try to rectify that in a few days if the weather cooperates.

As previously discussed, if I were to change anything the pull would be a bit heavier but given the thin (almost delicate) profile of the blade and tip it was within reasonable tolerances imho.

For those who have never owned John's work or met him at a show, he is (as mentioned) both a very good maker as well as a gentleman...and his work (if I may be permitted to say so) is very reasonably priced.

As promised, here's some just taken Christmas morning images of the knife in natural light from the only dry rail on my porch deck. (It's snowing steadily outside.)

John did a heck of a job giving this knife a vintage look with very crisp lines. I couldn't be more pleased...

That's one of the nicest knives I've seen in 2010 Elliott! Just perfect in every way.

Wow, Nick, that's really saying a lot considering all the beauties we've been seeing on the forum of late! (Including some recent beauties of yours!)

Thanks for those very kind words. I'm really enjoying carrying it today. You can hardly tell it's in your pocket.

Elliott, after reading your PM that mentioned this knife, I had to come track it down and take a look. Well, after I did, I realized that I had seen the thread before, but had forgotten the maker's name, but not the knife. Anyway, that kind of design is right down the middle of the fairway in my current likes. It is indeed a fine knife in every way and your natural, snowy day, pictures look very good as well. Looks like I need some photography lessons and probably a better camera.

Thanks fellas! It's good to have the power back on so I can put the candles away and enjoy fondling and looking at it again. :p
