foghatracing: I know several collectors who still collect Cooper's. In Sept. 1987 he passed away at the age of 81, He was know as the knife maker to the stars and made knives for movies and actors. His knife making spanned some 50 plus years.

Hello David.
I was Googling around looking for info on Cooper knives and I came across this forum and the collectors of said knives.
I have my Dad's Cooper "Bianchi" knife. He bought it from the Bianchi holster maker back in the early-60's from their Monrovia, CA shop. This was when Bianchi was just a local name. We were there to buy a holster for his Ruger Blackhawk and he liked the knives on display and bought one. I had never seen a knife so sharp in my short life. Right out of the holster, we were able to dry shave the hair off of our arms with it. We were told that it was not only sharpened but then honed to razor sharpness. Dad used it as a hunting knife for years.
When he passed away this year, I got his hunting stuff and the knife was still in it's original holster. It is still a beautiful piece of business.
Just thought I would pass along the info for your group.

Kelly: I am sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. He left you a rare Cooper knife, Bianchi made 5 models of the Bianchi/Coopere knife series for it's 1968 catalog. about 100 of each model were made. Could you post a photo of your knife

I too have a Cooper Bianchi with sheath and have had it for a few years. From a military aspect I know some of his knives were used in viet nam. O1 steel that he used is definately old school.

I am interested in departing this piece which is actually in very nice shape. I have only had it in a display case, sort of a safe queen if you will...

I will post it for sale in the appropriate section,

Thanks!

David

David I know that this isn't the one you asked to see, but I thought I would post one that I have in my collection. I guess it is most similar to the second one down in your picture.

I bought this Cooper knife at a knife show and fear I paid a bit much for it. I bought it on impulse without doing my research first. Bad plan! It came with a loose
stitched JRB Randall sheath marked W (waxed) 16. It fits it very nicely. The
knife is very heavty and measures 11 3/4" overall length, blade is 6 1/2". The
eagle stamp is 3/8" across. It has very thin blue and red spaces separating the
brass fittings from the stag. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I haven't figured out how to post pictures but if you want to see pics email me at rwhammond1@charter.net Thanks

Bought a shoebox full of older knifes at a carport sale - a woman was selling knifes that had belonged to her father that had passed away almost 10 years ago. couple of the knifes were very interesting, one especially is a high quality fighter marked Bianchi by Cooper with the same logo as the knife in the picture below. The knife has been ignored for what looks like decades and when I had pulled it out of the box the woman said her father was in vietnam and that was his knife. I told her it was probably worth something if cleaned up she didn't care so I bought the box is this a John Nelson Cooper Knife?

RetroSurfer, Well this is ironic. I was just emailing a friend in Finland about the John Nelson Cooper bowie I had in Vietnam, bought it through Bianchi. I did not carry it in the field as it rusted pretty easily and the handle was little too small for my hand. I used it one time to cut open an eight pound block of hamburger and got a blood stain all the way up to the guard. When people would ask about the blood stain I would tell them the truth about the hamburger, but they would not believe me, but if I said I stabbed three VC they would believe that. Mine was stolen out of a car on Okinawa in about 1972, when I rotated out of Vietnam, heading home. John

Thanks for your reply it's a nice knife and was obviously very well made. The rusting and staining was a definite issue I used a Randall and had the same issues - bloodstains and rust were a constant battle but the steel held a edge forever.
