The thead about displaying a khuk reminded me of a pic John Powell posted here a while back showing him standing in front of a wall, I assume in his house with khuks all over the wall. I was wondering if anyone remembered where it was, I wanted to kind of see how he had them hung there. They were horizontal as I recall.

I've seen that as well and I think it might have been on a link from the HI website. There were links to info and pics from several collectors. If I find it I'll let you know.

Is that a "left handed" scabbard by his elbow? I don't think I have ever seen a left-handed Khuk.

Sweet pic. Thanks for asking HD, and JJ thanks for finding.

No, thank Hollowdweller for bringing that good picture idea up :)

Because it's so much easier to take care of items stored behind glass, I wish I could make glass displays for all "my" collectibles. But, just can't see putting everything behind glass.

John Powell has "a lot" of blades, and it sure would take me a heck of a long time if I inherited such a number of khukuris and had to suddenly figure out how to display them all (though I'm up to the task if any of you here want to donate such a large collection to me) ;)

I have some items (not khukuris) that I display without glass protection, but I do usually bring them out somehow by making some sort of display for them.
The following photo links show a few swords that I own which I have made display backboards for (these blades are not glass protected).

This may be one of the ideas I'll use on future khukuri purchases ;)

Sword made by Paul Chen's (Chen Chao Po) Hanwei forge:

well, most of them do not live on a wall, three kukhris, two gladius, a spatha, cs assegai & a few grabonthewayby's hang on hooks in a beam by the side of the bed. most live on end tables, side tables and in general lie flat. they tend to circulate about as i clean them & renew my connections. the pedang, flyssa, and a couple of goloks live on the tv table next to my normal TV (contested by the dogs) seat. the thai darbs live on the back of a chair next to the TV, swords, other golok, other assegai & a few other non-ethnics live on a glasstop table near the stairs, others inc. some cas iberia bowies, the yataghan, pesh kabz, kujang, short dha's, bolo, keris live on the tables next to the bed, most of the others are on top of my pc, the scanner or the printer or on the computer desk. some of the folders & western knives live in their boxes or in the dresser. plans are to put up a zi;llion hooks in the spare bedroom/computer room & hang most of them there. will post if i ever do it.

i've assembled the ethnic ones only on the bed:

eth1.jpg

sections of them sort of clockwise from upper left:

eth2.jpg

shamshir & shashka at top, from left klewang, tumuk lada, keris, two punals with a badek in between, pesh, kindjal, badik, pesh kabz, there's a small broom handled dha in there somewhere near the klewang tip
eth3.jpg

dyak parang, rencong, HI kobra, golok, ww1 kukhri, african dagger, small indian armour peircer with koftgari handle
eth4.jpg

r to l: two thai darbs, parang, very sharp bloody assegai, m43, nepal royal armoury kukhri, barong, flyssa
eth5.jpg

burmese dha. pedang, dha, two small dha, parang, kujang, bolo tusak,
eth6.jpg

slightly better picture of last one above, yataghan hiding in there between flyssa & dha, can see silver niello work on the dha sides better too.

p.s. - the little assegai bit me when i picked it up, blood all over, dogs excited, bandaids are not designed to be torn open when your right thumb is dripping blood all over. it's stopped now. should be OK without any stitches, the bandaids have a coagulant built in. forgot the kouhmmyah hanging on the mirror & a couple others....not enuff room to unsheath all of them.

Kronckew,

Is that a Barong there in the lower right of the last pic, the one with the big flat blade and curved light wood handle? I love the looks of that one! Please tell me where you got it! Is it a one of a kind, or is that a common design? I have seen several barongs, but the blades did not seem to me to be nearly that wide, and the handles not nearly as nice.

Thanks for any info!

Regards,

Norm

Holy sh*t!

... it's a wonder you get any sleep ...

Yeah, I've heard of a bed of nails, but a bed of knives? You must have to take Ambien to sleep at all:D .

Can't really see how they are hooked up there.

Drill a hole through the scabbard and blade, and hammer a nail through. It helps to have a stud behind it in the wall to make it really secure and earthquake proof. They won't go anywhere!

Remember not to use a screw because the screw threads can mark up the edges of the scabbard hole. :(
