Ok, we have all seen it, some like the design some don't. I happen to like it, but would not dare pay for it since I can get much better at half the cost.

So if you have heard or seen of a knife designed like the rambo knife post it here. There is a competition cutter that is designed similar to the Rambo knife, but I cannot find it's pic. Anyway, I will start it off by putting in the following (and yes, I would own one of these before the Rambo knife):

can you guys think of any more?

For the blunt-nosed cleaver-like profile (though without the rustic finish) you'd be hard-pressed to do better than this Burt Foster competition cutter:

yup, that is the one I was thinking of:thumbup:

Well then there ya go. Them fellas make junky knives that look like they're made from rusty ol' truck springs and they weren't even trying!

So where do I register to get on the list identifying the horse of the month to beat??? I missed the memo on this one.

Quite honestly, I would use none of those unless I had a very good reason - like someone paying me to do so, or having mystically misplaced all my other bladeware. Some of them do look acceptably nice, though, especially the Koster with wooden scales. :)

I'm on dial-up and the pics of the Foster hadn't loaded when I posted. That's way too purdy. He's gonna have to try again if he was tryin' for "the look.":):):):):):)

I don't speak for Burt, but I'd be very much surprised if he had John Rambo in mind when he made that knife.

I went back and added some smileys for those who missed the TIC.

well it's good to see your connection is as quick as your humor;)

PS: can you point me to the dead horse thread that you implied? thanks.

Oh, and very cool to see that so many knifemakers are making junk as you say.

No idea on dimensions. Best guess would be an 8" blade.

Adam DesRosiers is another maker who has done the "combat cleaver" design. Couldn't find a pic of one of his, though.

The latest Rambo knife is a golok. A Google search using that term will turn up a lot of similar designs.

I love that Tai Goo knife pictured above, BTW. Primitive, but elegant.

The new Rambo knife doesn't look much like a golok to me. Any particular golok you guys are refering to?

The near-dead horse is here:

It got bumped over to GB&U. There was a similar long discussion on another popular forum for sharp and pointy things.

that thread was about the hibben knife itself. I could give a flying crap about the hibben knife. I was just starting a discussion on how similar that knife is to the ones shown in the preceeding pics and how many such knives there has been in the past prior to "Rambo" comming out with it. I didn't realize that two distinct threads is beating the dead horse. Anyway-BACK to THE TOPIC (hijacker)

The tai goo knife above is a golok and there is more than just a resemblence to the hibben knife. Even the martindale below is similar. None are exactly like it, just like so many bowies that are different and some don't even look like bowies.
