John Rambo Knife Design

What is your point of posting this this thread? Is there ANY knife that does not have similar copies available in all levels of quality and prices ranges?

It's not my thread, but it seems to me the point of the thread was - in general - to ask people to show examples of custom knives similar in design to that of the Rambo knife. That, plus a specific request regarding a competition cutter that was similar in design. Seems to me that both those things have been accomplished.

Of course you can find similarities in all knives if you look hard enough - but the Rambo knife is hardly mainstream in appearance, so asking "what else is there out there like this" doesn't seem like a pointless exercise to me. I mean, if he posted a pic of a Loveless drop point hunter and as "what similar custom knives are out there" - you might have a point.

But I have a question for you. If you think this to be a pointless thread - which you don't state, but seem to suggest - why are you here, exactly? Bucking for captain of the pointless thread police, or something?

No need for a personal attack. It's just that this thing has been hashed out quite thoroughly in other threads so I question the motive of starting it over again.

The first line of the thread clearly indicates an agenda with the statement "would not dare pay for it since I can get much better at half the cost. " Am I to assume that he came to that conclusion after using the Rambo knife and found it not to be of good quality?

The shape of that blade goes back on Europe for centuries, as the Falchion. Anybody seen the Ontario knife logo?

Have there been several threads asking for pictures of contemporary custom knives similar in design to the Rambo knife? Have there been any?

I would think the motive would be obvious - he wants to see pics of custom alternatives to the Rambo knife. If you want to read in some hidden, nefarious motive that isn't otherwise evident, that's entirely your choice.

Again - if you feel "this thing has been hashed out quite thoroughly" - why jump in to add some hash of your own? As a rule, I generally don't participate in a thread I find to be a pointless, repetitive waste of bandwidth. That would be counteproductive, to say the least. But that's me.

I haven't seen any attacks on Gil Hibben or the Rambo knife on this thread yet. Have you? So, let's not turn this into something it isn't. I would have to agree with RogerP on the matter.

Hammer27: I wish they left that scene in the movie as it adds SOME depth of character (rather than the none at all that we ended up with), plus it would show how he went into the jungle at the end of Rambo II with his old knife and came up with that thing.

No agenda at all and I think you read way more into things than is there. Sounds like you initiated the personal attack. Again, what thread do you speak of? The other thread had nothing to do with what I am discussing so of there is another one please post a link.

As RogerP astutely guessed there is no hidden agenda. I like the design of the rambo knife, as odd as that may be, and I just wanted to see how many other current designs are similar too it. I know that no knife will be exactly like it.

thanks to all those that responded to the topic of this thread.

You can also modify an Old Hickory Butcher knife into the new Rambo style and have the option of six different sizes. I am going to do an 8" blade. The knife looks very practical to me.
