John Young Sub Hilt

A gorgeous piece in every respect. Among the nicest examnples of ram horn I have seen. Congrats!

Wow! Hard to tell for sure from photos, but it looks like there's a very subtle recurve to the blade. Whether it's actually there or just perceived, it really adds some elegance!

No surprise with the splendor of Young's metal, and I'm with the herd on the rams-horn.

We seldom see the glory of rams-horn because of wholesale debarking, something I've never understood. Perhaps my imagination runs wild, but I suspect the powdered bark ends up in Asian aphrodisiac markets catering to wistful old men willing to spend upwards of 25K yen for a snort of magic bark. Fortunately here in the West we have more environmentally friendly substances, which, hopefully, will lead to a new day in the ethical treatment of rams and kill 2toes' urge to gnaw on his lovely handle when organic visions of ram power invade.

+1 on that, I don't usually like sheep/ram horn, but in this case those slabs are just perfect... and Coop's pics are always excellent, and convey very well the beauty of the piece:).

STeven didn't say it. Then I'm going to do it... I'd definitely rather have the guard and the subhilt designed the way Bob Loveless did.

Moreover, I like the material, but the handle looks a bit squared to me. That said, this knife features a gorgeous blade.

It's a very nice piece, but I'm with Patrick... something looks off to me. While I am not a staunch supporter (like STeven ;) ) of ONLY doing either a Loveless or Herron style sub-hilt if you're going to do one ... it seems that if you're going to do a "Loveless" sub-hilt, it's going to look off if it's not done just that way.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice piece that demonstrates John's tremendous skill. It's nust not my favorite John Young. :)

If it's all the same to you, I would just as soon that every body and his brother didn't copy Bob Loveless line for line. That's my job! LOL!!!

John does exceptional work, but more on his own and Steve Johnson's line.

Yes it does look a bit squarish, however, to round it it off to feel great in the hand would have destroyed the very thing that makes this Knife stand out.

That beautiful Horn needs to be left just the way it is. It would be a disgrace to destroy it. There are plenty of softly handled knives out there. This one stand on its own merit. :)
