This thread will be a place to showcase your traditional Johnny Stout knives, which are some of the finest slipjoints available, IMO and Johnny is one of the nicest guys you could meet in the knife world.

Here is a Zulu spear that Johnny is just finishing up for me. I sent Johnny some mosaic feather pattern damascus from my friend, and top tier knifemaker, ABS Master Smith Jon Christensen. This was a piece of damascus that I had seen many times sitting with some scrap damascus in Jon's toolbox. This is a mosaic leaf damascus that was cleaved in half and welded back up, it was a wider piece so we don't see as many of the leaves on this blade, but they can be seen toward the top edge, before the nail nick. The bolsters are Mike Tyre feather pattern that have been polished with the filing in the bolster left with a darker etch, by my request, as is the proud pin. The scales are some fine, natural Sambar stag, which is becoming harder and expensive to obtain. Closed length should be around 4.25, based on Tony's Zulu pattern. Johnny still has some finishing work to do on it and it will be in the mail on Friday. I will update with pics and thoughts.

Here is another(not mine) that really shows Johnny's talent. This piece won best folder on the CKCA forum.

Here is some rare cocobolo burl that I sent Johnny that we will use for a Loveless drop point fixed blade. It was originally slated for the Zulu, but we decided stag would look best.

That Zulu is really nice Kris. I love the Feather Damascus and the proud pin is a nice change to what we normally see. I look forward to seeing more of Johnny's knives.

An exquisite piece, Kris! I too like the proud pin and the file work really sets off the knife:thumbup::thumbup:. You always find the best damascus. The signed shield is a great touch. The Cocobolo burl is amazing

Thanks for the compliments, gentlemen. Here are a few pics of Jon's Bamboo damascus, on two very traditional fixed blades. Also a few pics from Johnny's archives. Thanks for looking,

Nice! While I've only owned a couple of his non-traditional knives, I will definitely attest to the quality of his work.:thumbup: Additionally, he invited me to attend a hammer-in at his place a number of years back which was a terrific experience (I was purely a spectator, not in any way, shape or form any kind of knifemaker;).)

Kris, thanks for the praise on our Zulu. I'll be the 1st to admit that, if I'm known for anything, it's not for my slipjoints. Most of the ones that I've built have been Client orders, and made to their specs, or at least, selection of materials. In my knifemaking career, probably 60 to 70 percent of the knives that I've built have been custom orders....I get my greatest satisfaction when I'm able to fulfill the wishes of someone that has a picture in their mind, and I can make it happen.

My thanks always goes out to the folks that buy, and have bought, my work. I appreciate you Kris, and look forward to working with you in the future.

Johnny

This should be a great thread, I've always admired johnnys work, super clean, spot-on and a timeless look and feel!
Great knife you got there Kris. Love the stag and raised pins with the Damascus bolsters.
The steel is my feathered bamboo leaves. When they get feather cut the leaves are smeared and morph into branches. Good use of the blade steel considering it was sized for a slightly larger blade. I can see lots of bamboo leaves on the edges! The steel kinda looks like a shower of sparks, hmmm, gives me some ideas!
Very Nice!
Jon

Kris, thanks for starting this thread! Johnny's work is next level! Love the Zulu and the burl wood is outstanding. I'm looking forward to seeing the final products.

Testing an image post.

I've been learning how to post images here. This is a new model for me, The Monarch, thought I would share this picture.

Astounding knife.

But it has that little knobby on it which makes it non-traditional.

Chris you sure did score with that beautiful Zulu Spear.

Johnny all of your knives posted here are extremely impressive but you knocked it out of the park with that Monarch. WOW!

Thanks for the comment, here is a picture of a couple of my more traditional folders from a while back.

Looking good Johnny, thanks for sharing. I received my Zulu today, thanks Johnny. The fit and finish is as good as it gets. Mill relieved liner, the 416 pivot pin is stippled to match the damascus. perfectly fitted Sambar stag, the pull is a nice even 5.5 or so. Overall a lovely knife that I am proud to own. The feather bolster from Mike Tyre is etched, then polished, leaving the filing with full etch, looks nice IMO. Remember folks, Johnny does it all by hand. Thanks again to Jon Christensen for the killer damascus. I spent Saturday at Jon's, always a great time. Here are a few pics,
