Yes, I posted in the General discussion area also but wanted to share with specific Spyder fans also.
I have collected knives for 40+ years, but generally pocket knives until I joined the Corps. I then concentrated on simple, utility fixed blades for use in the field. Back in 1980 when I joined, my main folder was a Buck 110 (still have it). I recently decided to look for a good, solid, working folder and decided on the Spyderco Paramilitary D2 for the design, feel, steel & reputation. I figure it can't be a bad investment either since only 1200 were made (even though I never sell a knife).

It meets and exceeds my "initial" expectations. The balance, feel, ease of operation and visual is awesome. I was pleasantly suprised at how easy and fast it is to open & close. The only thing keeping this from being perfect out of the box is the tip-down carry, but we'll take care of that if needed. ;)

Here's a few shots in the back yard.

One more note. I was a tad bit concerned I would not care for the hole as much as a stud but all it took was one opening and I knew what was better.

Very nice. I have one myself. It's my favorite. Great design for a knife and the Spyder-hole is much better than the studs IMO.

It's a little bigger than my usual EDC, so I generally just leave it at my office. For some strange reason it ends in my pocket any time i need a larger size slicer. The fit of the handle is just about perfect. the weight, size and balance is really surprising.

I've been very happy with the steel, and the G-10 FG handle is so grippy that the knife ain't going anywhere. Only had the knife for a few weeks, but it is an excellent knife IMO.

Great images and congradulations! I don't see anything ever dethroning my CPM D2 Para Military as favorite EDC hard user knife.

Excellent photos bigmo. The CPM D2 Para is a great blade. I have the standard issue Para, but the FG is on my list. I do own two of the D2 Militarys though. :D

I just got my D2 Para today, ordered three days ago from newgraham and the big brown slay dropped it off this evening. I already own a S30v para and it has always been one of my "just right" spidies. This D2 version takes it to another level though, has anyone else noticed how much smoother the D2 opens and how it locks into place with more athority? Im really impressed! I sharpened my S30v to a very sharp edge (effortless shave) but this D2 verion arrived with an incredible edge, been carving news print all night right out of the box! What a great knife.............thanks Spyderco

It's a keeper, one of the nicest edc's out there.
Liked it so much,I have three now.

I got mine the other day to hang with my CPM D2 Millie. The edge wasn't the sharpest, but at .019" thick and 13 degrees per side the geometry is great. I threw a quick 15 degree microbevel on it to get it properly sharp and it reminded me why I like CPM D2 so much, as it got noticeably sharper than the H1 and the ZDP-189 I was sharpening next to it. I polished them all out on sub micron lapping film, and this thing was in the mode of being so sharp it is difficult to whittle hair because it instantly pops any hair it touches if the hair isn't about perfectly flat with the blade. Dust thin hair whittles, and one hair with tons of tiny whittles and 18 splits on it (the kind of splits where the hair is still barely held together) had the piece of hair zig zagging with all sorts of little curls up an down the hair on it were real nice to see. I just love this steel.

The knife itself is great as well, as the comp lock is my personal favorite and it is a bit more sheeple friendly than my Millie. I wish it had a 4 way clip, but it will do very well as is. I still haven't cut anything with the knife yet or carried it, but that will change. I have found that unlike previous handlings of Paras I can get a good grip without the choil in spite of my large hands, so I shouldn't have to shave the rear handle bump down like I thought I would. This knife will definately be getting a lot of use. It is a nice, strong little workhorse that should easily handle heavy duty work. It is an excellent design, and adding CPM D2 just makes it a tremendous package that I couldn't pass up.

I am picking one up tomorrow at a local store. I saw it and handled it on Saturday and the price I think is right at $99.95 +sales tax.
