Oh, I definitely worked it too hard. Just to reiterate, this one is entirely my fault. Should've known better than to go tip first and twist.

Vance, thanks for being all over this. No apologies necessary. As I've said, I take full blame for not heeding the design of the blade.

I'll be interested to see how it's handled. Hopefully the result is a stouter tip but I'll let the pros handle this. Is there any chance the small guard protrusion could be eliminated and the recurve taken out as well? Just asking- if it's too involved I completely understand. Those are things I can accomplish on my own easily enough. And since this is definitely a user now...haha.
put those things in your note & I will see what I can do

I recently broke the tip off on my pro-kephart by trying to stab into some small kindling to split it. I didn’t realize the tip went thru and into the stump and when I twisted the kindling to split it..... well you can guess.

Phillip,
Thanks much. I'll note it and do understand this is all extra on your part. Please let me pay for return shipping or any other expense you deem appropriate.

Gotta say what's already been said many times, you guys deliver it all- great products and equally great service! It's easy to see why Fiddleback Forge is at the top of so many knife knuts' lists for favorite makers. I will definitely be a repeat client.

I saw the post on your "modded" knife. Yeah, I definitely should've known better. The branch I picked was way too dead and seasoned to begin with. As soon as I torqued the blade I knew I'd done wrong. Wasn't the least bit surprised to see the tip missing when I pulled the blade out. It's not the fault of the steel- it did flex, I was just too much of a ham-fisted gorilla for the svelte blade taper.

Just let me say that by owning your mistake and sharing with the rest of us, we can all learn from it and will hopefully take heed if ever in a similar circumstance. Thank you for that.

Yep, that was my hope that by posting my experience someone else might think twice about where they stick their tip lol. Right tool for the right job! In any event, knife is in the mail and I'll keep y'all posted.

Yesterday a Priority Mail box showed up in my mailbox with return addressee Andy P. Roy. Inside-

Introducing the...Bush Arete? The crew at Fiddleback did a fantastic job of fixing up the blade. Appears to be totally polished up and have a fresh edge, to boot. Ultimately, the knife lost maybe 3/8" in total length so all things considered this is quite a lucky break (groan).

I'm really liking how the dropped point looks and the blade is even more nimble, almost like using a paring knife on steroids. I haven't had much time at all to use it but will post updates as I get more of an opportunity. All I can say is that the control when using this knife are unparalleled...in my narrow experience, anyway. Man can it get right in there and slice/cut/carve!

Thanks Andy, Phillip and anyone else at the shop who helped with the repairs. You guys are awesome!!!

rswanson rswanson I was just reading up on all this. First off, I'm glad your putting that knife through the works!! secondly, sorry your knife tip busted up like that. BUT I really like what VANCE VANCE and @Fiddleback did to fix it. Looks great! Then name sounds good too!!
Oh yes, they did an excellent job! But maybe you should've bought this one and it might still be in one piece.

But seriously, if Andy is considering tweaking the design I do love a drop point where the point is near the center axis. I don't hunt or use these knives for fishing so it would be a step back for those uses but for general wood/camp craft I favor this profile.

Blessing in disguise? I'd rather not have made the mistake and have the full blade length but we live and learn.
