Joining The Forces

Check out the "BIG air power" forces (AF, Navy, some Marines). Air Force and Navy for the highest-tec stuff (no offense to you other services). Also keep in mind that in the Air Force, unless you choose to be a pilot, you will be supporting the weapon system (airplane) (usually from afar). In the Navy you WILL be floating ON the weapon system (ship) for months at a time.

My two cent vote would be Air Force. (can anyone/everyone tell what I've done most of my life?);)

I am actually a National Guard recruiter who served 8 years active duty in the Marine Corps before joining the Guard. In my 9 years of service I have worked closley with all branches and would be more than happy to talk to you about the realities of the military and combat. I am in a differfent state, so not to worry aout me trying to recruit you. Not only that I truly love serving my country, and want every one I help join to feel the same way, whether it is for 3 years or 20...

vivi, i was in the air national guard in weapons release, i repaired bomb racks on fighter planes. my brother was in weapons loading. you can join the guard to see how well you like it, you can become full time later if you like it well enough. good luck wherever you choose to go.

What about the Reserves? From what I understand, you can do a stint in the reserves, and if you want to go full time, you can go from there to active duty fairly quickly. If you don't your time (i THINK) is somewhat less than someone who goes directly to active duty.

Of course, there's always the possibility of being deployed.

When I was in the Coast Guard, I was lucky enough to be on a High-Endurance Cutter that did a couple of summers in Europe / Med / N.Africa / Black Sea, as well as regular patrols in the Caribbean, Central and South America. Those were some of the most cherished memories of my life; the camaraderie among shipmates is a bond you don't get with a co-worker at a faceless corporation. And believe me, the numerous interesting adventures in foreign ports are something you will never forget. The Navy does that stuff all the time, and if you want some great adventures while you're still young and unencumbered with a wife and kids, you might want to think about joining them. There is high-tech all over the Navy, too. Yes, shipboard life can really suck, but the good outweighs the bad in the long run.
