IMHO, do not show up for Basic Training with ANYTHING. When i was in---THEY TOOK EVERYTHING & I MEAN EVERYTHING. PEOPLE LOST 2 GARBAGE BAGS FULL OF CIGARETTES, CHEWING TOBACCO, KNIVES ECT. They did NOT get them back, any of them. Wait until you get to your permenant station &/or deployed. Then find out what you can & can not have, are allowed to carry & what you actually need. Sometimes, a multi-tool can be of more use. They even have one specialized for the M16/AR15 platform.
