Interesting. For one, I'm surprised a bar of 1018 made it over 50HRC, second, what the heck is a Jominy?

No you guys, Jominy are those little candies we used to get when we'd ride our bikes into town. A nickel a piece! 
Actually... I remember the jominy test from some of my material science classes about 12 years ago, the jist of it is to determine the hardenability of steels.
I heard Sam bought a bidet at an estate sale so he could set up a jominy test lab in his shop.

That's certainly my favored application for a bidet!
Ok, some questions for those in the know. Is there a standard temp for the water in this type of testing? Also, During the hardness testing, is it ordinary to leave the bar loose in the fixture like that? The one end lifting up seems like it might affect the readings.
