I made this piece a while ago, and something had always bothered me about it, so I decided to take a page out of Jon Brand's book and re-work it into something I liked better. (only I didn't have to send it back to Don Hanson III)

These first pics are the "before" shots.

I had showed the knife to our very own STeven Garson, and he had the same reaction, or shall I say, repulsion. He was good enough to give me some constructive criticism in the way only STeven can... specifically.

After I dried my eyes, I decided to take the plunge and re-work a completely finished knife. Obviously, with this type of pattern, you cant just hack away on the profile until you like it as you can with others.

The changes to the blade are subtle, but I hope you all agree that they are for the better.

I also decided to add some file work to the bolster, and I think it makes a pleasant upgrade.

Since I was already committed to completely refinishing the knife, I took the opportunity to hit the woods and have a little fun doing some extreme chopping and trail clearing. There is video of that, and it will be added here in the near future. It's really impressive how much devastation you can do to a tree with a knife this size!

The "Orc Angel" has now been "re-Branded" and "Garsonized". Hope you enjoy.

Adam.

New look is just amazing. Though the old one wasn't so bad either:) Beautiful blade and handle.
Regards

This knife, he made much speak here in France, a large knife different from what we can see, with mind and soul DesRrosiers
I think many are dreaming (especially me) to be able to touch and possess
change it but I see it as the first day, amazed I 'Was
The "ORC" i see every day Adam ,

I will not tell you yet if I like this change.

Adam it looks great. I loved the carved spacers
Or ferrule..? Thanks for the shout out. I need one of your Turkish twist keyhole integral hunters. BADLY! I haven't been lucky. Keep me in mind buddy! !

The new spacers look awesome, now it matches your magnificent Dark Angel knife.

But what I really look forward to is your chopping video with the original knife :D

The 'Garsonized' spine/clip change is the most dramatic. Gives a much better profile. Taking on 're-Branding' a piece like this is impressive. As is the result.

Very nice and subtle changes Adam! Disregard my Facebook post... now that you've posted the details here I can see. Wasn't that easy to 'recognize' the changes as they're subtle, but really nicely done!

Great work Adam! The blade was really nice before. Beautifully finished and big and beastly. Now it's still beastly but it's more streamlined and refined. The filework on the guard/ferrule area is a wonderful improvement.

Quite often very small and subtle changes here and there make a huge difference. Good for you for having the self judgement to go back and fix something you didn't like.

YOU are a brave man......;)

I couldn't imagine going to the grinder with that beauty or what it would take to revamp/re-etch a finished knife of that magnitude.

Really like that, Adam. It really refines the look without loosing the big knife appeal. The filework looks great too. BTW, did STeven offer the critique with the knife in your hands or his...lol! He's a brave little man...

Funny, how 'tough love' can actually make someone stronger. (Garssonizing© and Branding® influences. ;))

Brave, as Dudley suggested to return to this. You are stronger.

The blade has more appeal to me, too. Before it was was almost like a caricature: Exaggerated. Now it looks simpler and more 'usable'.

I LOVE how you added appeal and visual interest to the integral bolster area.

(I've finished photo projects which I was perfectly fine with and then the client saw things that didn't appeal to them. Harrummph. So, after I go back and redo it, I realize "Hey that looks better!" Sometimes we need to step away.)

Thanks for showing us. Nice.

simply adding the flutes would have made a huge difference, but deepening the swedge and pulling the raised portion of the clip forward really does wonders. It was such a kickass, unique piece as it was, but it's even more kickass now.

Hey Adam,

I dig the fluting, looks sweet.

Pulling the "Fin" more towards the tip looks "right" to me, and I hope it does to you as well....and I can tell you, this should be an award winning blade.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

From great to excellent. Well done, that is a gorgeous knife now with a very interesting and documented story.

she should already have been winning the first time.

she should already have been winning the first time.

That is your opinion.

Great knives(and this is a great knife) have to demonstrate certain attributes in order to win awards.....when ALL of the knives in a competition have great attributes than it comes down to splitting hairs...I was very specific with Adam about the areas that I thought needed work, and he took that information and made the knife(to my eyes) better.

If you don't care for that, order one from Adam with the original configuration(if he will build it for you).

C'est fini, n'est ce pas?

Best Regards,
