Jonas Blane's, from The Unit, folding knife: What is it?

Yeah, pretty much agree that's what it was.

Must be a personal favorite of the actor who plays Jonas.

Anybody have any experience with the knife. I've heard good things about the model but really nothing to make it stand out.

Thanks for the replies.

the CRKT M16s quality imho can vary from "ok" (ie the cheap ones) to pretty good (the ti ones ) if i wanted an M16 i would get the ti version as ya get a ti handle vs alloy and the blade has better steel, the ti's also have a lot better F&F, i have had a couple of M16 ti's and all in all i was pretty happy with them.

That's exactly what it is. Ive seen Grey, or "Betty Blue" carry a large Griptillian (551 I think). I am not a fan of CRKT blades at all. I should send a letter to the Unit producers and have them get Jonas a Nice Spydie Military, or BM 710/520/551.

Yeah, but when it comes to tv/movies, it's not usually what knife is a lot more efficient in real life, it's about what looks better on screen.

Knives with serrations and unnecessary bells-and-whistles always looks a lot more interesting to people when it comes to entertainment.

Frankly, the CRKT line is a good choice price/performance. You could reasonably expect the need to destroy it in use, or toss it if captured. Even sterile versions would be resasonably construed as American.

In terms of NSN, Benchmade AFO's would be a better choice for situational accuracy, with Nimravus fixed blades. The best would be something procured locally from the AO, especially when out of uniform. Pakistani clasp locks, or such.

A CRKT with clip would be a dead giveaway in robes. I know a lot of fans love the show, but it's not the most accurate out there by a long shot. Like replying "Thank you" in generic Arabic to a Uzbeki guard while pretending to be a local, or having the Undersecretary of State micromanaging a mission. THAT is really out of the ordinary.

If the mission was that covert, a tricked out M4 would be the last choice. Better off with a Paki built HK and ME issue Berettas.

It's just Hollywood, so Hollywood propmen supply the gear.

It is a CRKT M16...I've seen Brown the young guy use a griptillian in the ep where he crashes in Siberia. Great show.

I would give the CRKT M16 line a failing grade. I gave my Son one to use in Scouts (he recently received his Eagle Rank) a few years ago and he destroyed it in one summer of camping. I then gave him a used Microtech Socom and he still has it, although it is a bit scratched up. He's pretty rough on equipment, but I know if he breaks one then I sure could, so I won't own one.

I love the show. Nothing wrong with the CRKTs, and in the real world something like that would likely be an individual purchase. But, I agree on a mission like that where the object is to not leave an American "footprint," the last thing you would carry would be tricked-out M-4s with brasscatchers of all things, and NVGs to boot! Despite all that it's a great show.

Most TV shows are useless at getting weapons knowledge right.

Movies are marginally better but only when they have someone consulting who knows his shit.

Michael Mann is a good example of this. His movies are usually right on the money.

I've had some interesting experiences with CRKT knives. I have a cheapie I bought when I first started collecting (m16-13z I believe) and it still remains one of the most solid knives I own. Of course the steel is nothing special, but it has a very solid lockup and I consider it a beater for chores where I need a solid knife, but don't want to risk one of my more expensive ones

In fact, I liked the knife so much that I ordered a titanium version expecting it to be above and beyond what I had grown accustomed to with the 13z, and the first time I opened it, the liner got stuck underneath the blade tang. It took a fair amount of prying to unjam it, and I decided then and there that I was returning the knife.

In Collateral, Tom Cruise's character uses a Sebenza. I'd say that's about right. :) Nicest knife I've ever seen in a movie.

In the club scene it looked like he had a Protech Godson. Pretty distinctive profile.

Exactly the same thing happened to my m16-13 Mil. When I got it I gave it a vigorous flick and the liner jammed. I had to use a table knife wrapped in a cloth to pry it loose. That was then, and since then it hasn't happened again, the knife has been a very good edc.

Also have the M21 plain edge, I've re-profiled the edge with a Lansky and it is as solid as a knife gets, easy to sharpen freehand. You'd really have to grossly abuse it to break it!
