Does this knife function well compared to other Spyderco knives? I have never seen a review for it, not counting the ad for the knife. This is probably the one Spyderco I know the least about, and if there is a review of it hidden somewhere in Bladeforums, there ought to be one in plain view. So the question is, what is your opinion/review of this knife?
Thanks a lot,
Sol

The Khalsa is the most unique Spyderco that I own. It has a very slick action when opening the blade and is smaller than it looks in photos. The handle is very smooth and is very comfortable. I don't use my Khalsa for a carry knife, I use a Delica for that, but it would work. The only concerns have to do with carrying it in a pocket as the Spyder hump can catch and open the blade as you pull it out. That aside it is a beautiful knife that approaches custom quality at a fraction of the cost. I have heard that quantities are limited, (perhaps some of the other members know for sure), but I would highly recommend it for a serious Spyderco collector.

The Khalsa is one of my favorites & Dave hit it right on the head about its smooth action. Since it's a tip-down carry model, the "drop" motion can be employed for opening. Also, since the only way I've carried mine is clipped to my pocket, I never experienced the blade hump catching & opening the blade as Dave had mentioned.

The detent on the ones I've owned held the blade closed just fine but it also lends itself very well to being opened with a flick of the wrist. (I know it's not recommended; however, a very slight flick is really all that is needed to get the blade moving.) It's also very easy to open when wearing gloves by placing your thumb in front of the hump & using it as the opening device. In fact, if you search the older threads you'll find one in which Sal Glesser talks about Bob Taylor opening one on Sal's chin like an Escalator. (Definitely not recommended!)

I find the handle ergonomics very good as well. The large choil also accomodates either forefinger or thumb when you want to choke up on the blade a bit for more delicate tasks.

There is one problem, however, that I and one other forumite that I know experienced with this model. On at least some Khalsas, the pocket clip screws are secured to just the thin micarta scales. The screws loosened & started to strip the threaded holes on mine after only a few days of pocket wear. I returned it to Spyderco Customer Service where, since it is discontinued & no longer available from the factory, it was replaced by another model. I have since picked up another Khalsa on which the metal liner is threaded to accept the pocket clip screws. I don't know whether this was a change in OEM spec or done as an aftermarket modification and I don't care. It works!

These are discontinued & may become increasingly difficult to find. If you are interested, I suggest that you look around for one now. I've seen a few bargains recently in the $50 range.

i have a Jot Singh also. i love the style. the choil really lets you bear down on the work you're doing. the only problem is the same choil/hole; it pokes into the outside of my pocket when i'm wearing jeans. also the end is kinda pointy although curved. nice looking style, but it poked out when i wore it IWB SOB on thinner pants- definitely showed when i put a shirt over the pants. would need a thicker shirt. but the knife is neat-looking with a triangular blade.

I have one and I like it very much, it's very comfortable to hold and I imagine it's just as much a "user" as any of their other models. It is wider than I expected so it tends to be noticed by the wearer more if it's clipped to a rear pocket and they sit down.

One story, I went out to a show to buy a Benchmade sentinel one day and came home with ones of these knives instead. :-)

The new SMKW catalog has them listed for $49.99. Not a bad price. If you want, I can run and get the catalog to post details. Hang on...

OK, I'm back.
